Went to the
Den Haag photomuseum to day to see an exhibit from
Erwin Olaf; the exhibit was of his Rain, Hope, Grief and Fall series.
Some stunning work done by him, reminiscent of Norman Rockwell, all set in a glorified version of the 50s USA. Somewhat cinematographic in approach, but the lighting of each shot was spot on and worthy of close study.
The biggest amusement was in the introduction where it's mentioned that these four series he thinks of as "back to basics" with little digital manipulation - probably more went on in the post production computer than in most of ours, though. Compared to some of his other work, though, yes, it was quite clean and realistic.
It's worth a visit to his web site, although some of his earlier stuff was quite exotic and bizarre and suited to a particular taste.
