Re: Hello. I'm new here. New member introductions

Hi All - I am 73 years young and have been taking photos since I was 15, when I was given a second hand Kodak which had no controls except the shutter, a few years later I bought a Kodak Instamatic which served me well until it let the light in on a dozen rolls of film whilst on holiday in Austria.

I bought a Canon EOS650 SLR which came with a 50mm Lens. I used this camera to produce many hundred of slides on my journeys and holidays mainly in Europe.

my first Digital Camera was a Canon G2, and my wife bought a Canon S45, both are still serving me well, and they take fine photos.

I purchased the first sub £1000 Canon 300D DLSR with kit lens, and invested in 3 other lens which were not L glass. Lugging this set of gear plus tripod etc., became more and more difficult due to age and the ravages of time.

I decided to dispense with the DSLR equipment and after a good lot of research desided to buy a Leica Digikux 2 and I have just bought a Leica D-Lux 4 and to date both have not as yet let me down.

I use Adobe Photoshop CS and find that in the main, my photos do not need much correction when checking them out with this software.

I hope that I will enjoy being a member of this forum etc.

    Regards   Fred

Re: Hello. I'm new here. New member introductions

hello all, I have been doing bird/wildlife photography for about 4 years now, I really love being able to get out in the bush or around a pond and relax with Mother Nature. I fisrt started shooting with a Canon S1 IS 3.2 mp camera, after 18 months with that I was able to upgrade to a Canon Rebel XT and a 200 F/2.8L lens. I now have a 20D married to the 200 still. I'm hoping to upgrade in the spring to the new 50D and a 400 F/5.6L. Ive posted a gallery here at DC Mag, and I hope some of you will take time to browse it, sorry I don't know how to link to it yet. I look forward to sharing images for many years to come and growing as a photographer,,,, thanks all

Re: Hello. I'm new here. New member introductions

Hi all, My name is Chris Heath and as the subject line says "I am new here". I am also completely new to photography, and apart from the snaps taken on holiday as a child have taken very few pictures since. I have nonetheless always wanted to, but work and family constraints have conspired against it. Now, with far more time to pursue my avid interest, i plan to do so and thought this would be a good place to start. I was also given (birthday present) a Canon EOS 450D which I plan to start using in the next couple of days. Any advice on how i should start would be greatly appreciated.
    happy snapping
    Chris.

Re: Hello. I'm new here. New member introductions

Just joined this morning, so thought I would say a quick hello. And put a post down so I can test my signature. I am a reasonably serious photographer, shoot music, fashion and other general photography. My main obsession is night photography and light painting. Check out the "After Dark" gallery on my website for examples.

Re: Hello. I'm new here. New member introductions

Hello My name is Peter Hopkins. I have only recently joined the "digital revolution" Started with an olympus compact and kept my old film camera. 2 weeks ago I decided enough was enough and converted fully with my purchase of an SLR digital camera. As I was new to SLR digital photography I decided on the Sony A200 as an entry camera. Finding it really liberating being able to see what I have taken and not having to wait for the photos to turn up. Usually out of a 24 roll film you may get 1 picture that you really like. Favourite topics for photographing are landscapes and wildlife. Particularly enjoy sunsets. My weak point is portraits so any help on this would be gratefully received. Been buying the magazine for the last 2 months and find it really helpful.

Re: Hello. I'm new here. New member introductions

    Hi !

I've been reading as a guest for a few weeks now, and have finally decided to join in :)

My name is Carol, Sara is one of our rescue dogs and "Sarasocke" is her nickname after the german "arme Socke" which means "poor thing". She was estimated to be around 13 years old when she came here two years ago from Romania, and has a weak heart. My avatar is a picture of Mickey - another rescue dog from Romania (we have three dogs - the third, Polly is from Crete). I'm afraid I don't have any decent pics of myself - Mickey's much prettier anyway ;)

I live near Frankfurt in Germany, and have been here some 30 years. I was born in Sheffield.

I started with photography when we got Polly, our first dog. First of all with a compact, a Canon Powershot. I got fed up of taking pictures of tails as the dogs were too fast for the camera and for Christmas 2006 Santa brought me a Nikon D80. So far I have a Sigma 18-200mm, a Nikon 50mm and a Tamron 90mm Macro which I love. This year Santa is supposed to be bringing me a Nikon 70-300mm, he's a bit slow tho - I think he's waiting for the prices to driop at the beginning of January.

I hope I'll be able to pick up lot of tips and I've got to get the hang of putting some pics in the gallery here !

    Regards

    Carol

    Hi All

Feel a bit nervy posting on here for the first time.  I am an utter novice when it comes to photography but figure I'm in a good place to learn.  Look forward to the journey.

    Best

Re: Hello. I'm new here. New member introductions

    Hi.
I've just traded up from a EOS300d to a 450d. I have a bit more time on my hands nowadays, so I hope to learn how to use it to it's full potential!

Some lovely pics on here and lots of good advice.

    Cheers.

Re: Hello. I'm new here. New member introductions

    Hi all;

I have been signed up to this site for about a year now, and never introduced myself *tut tut tut*

I am, and starting to think i will always be a complete novice! Got my first camera just over a year ago for the birth of my son and have been taking pictures ever since.

I have a Sony DSLR a200 standard twin lens kit. Some pictures in my gallery, but i have been pretty slack with that as i am only a dial up net connection!

I must say it is inspiring to see some of the amazing shots on here; kind of embarrassing too. When i put my pictures up alongside them!

    Hello Jumpsta and welcome!

Oh please don't worry - I feel like that all the time and I've been trying to improve for a couple of years now.  I have learnt an awful lot in the last year here and everyone is very kind and helpful as well as tolerant.

Don't be afraid to post pics and asks questions, someone always helps.

    Cheers
