Re: What annoyed you today?
But it would start growing as soon as it encountered an electron and another tiiiiny thing, and then it would get hungrier, and start to devour more. And the fact that we live on a relatively small planet, means it would probably come in contact with a lepton much sooner, and its rate of growth would be faster. And the thousands to hundreds of thousands of years thing is even more speculation. No one really knows how long it takes for a black hole to "mature". The sooner the better I say. Least it'll suck up all the annoying dog ***.

Re: What annoyed you today?
To be honest I spent a month or so obsessing over this (during highschool), and came up with my own theory. Due to the amount of matter that would have created the blackhole, it would be smaller then a quark (or whatevers smaller then a quark) therefore would it would be highly improbable of it colliding with any matter, and even if it did, the matter wouldnt be able to make it through the event horizon, as its bigger then the gap, and how can you fit something thats bigger in if it cant be broken up any further? So I think it would be far too unlikely for it to absorb anything within the time it existed (which would be nano seconds before it evaporated)

Re: What annoyed you today?
Beauty of a black hole. The matter doesn't go in whole. Its divided by 2, then those 2 parts are divided by 2, and so on and so forth. Spaghettification. Thats why so much effort is ploughed into studying black holes. They destroy everything. All matter. Anything that gets too close. Absolutely anything, as far as we know. They bend light, and they distort time. They're the ultimate destroyer. Apparently the center of the universe is a black hole. Apparently the center of our galaxy is a black hole. Now all we need to do is create wormholes. That'd be rad.

Have you never heard of Hawkins radiation? ![Wink [;)]](/emoticons/emotion-5.gif)
If the centre of the universe was a black hole then, the universe wouldn't exist but it could be a white hole. ![Big Smile [:D]](/emoticons/emotion-2.gif)

Re: What annoyed you today?
The thing is, the exact methods of blackholes is unknown, as we are unable to study them and to a large extent theyre only theoretical, though have observed events that could be explained by them. The idea you mention is based on the idea that matter can be split up infintitely, and no one knows what the most basic kind of matter is. (Though of course matter can be turned into energy, which could then be absorbed)
But my main point was that there is a finite probability of a collision, and it only becomes realistic for one to occur if there are huge amounts of the little things.
And I doubt the gravity created by them is large enough to redirect anything that is moving past and wasnt going to hit the event horizon anyway.

Re: What annoyed you today?
mattharrisuk:I have, actually...
And white holes are a really big if. But they were Einsteins idea, so they probably do exist.
Some theorist think that our universe was a white hole at creation, and was a black hole in another universe. It therefore follows, if we create a black hole in our universe it is also a white hole in a new universe. To make things more complicated, some think that the big bang occurred in more than one place in our universe and it therefore follows, that our universe hasn't got a centre point. ![Big Smile [:D]](/emoticons/emotion-2.gif)

Its ok all I've found the black hole........
At the moment it is in Port Talbot. It hit about 5hrs ago well thats what it feels like because thats when you lot lost me lol. Physics was never my strong point, now Biology that was another case all together ![Wink [;)]](/emoticons/emotion-5.gif) ![Stick out tongue [:P]](/emoticons/emotion-4.gif)

Re: What annoyed you today?
But each big bang comes to its own universe, and its own centre.
It is possible that the multiverse is in one infinite space, but is there any chance of them colliding? and if they ever did there wouldnt be any life left to witness it, so would it really happen?
Or of course the multiiverse is in different planes and therefor can never touch. but hey, it all gets uber theoretical and confusing.

Re: What annoyed you today?
O.K. given I haven't watched the programme yet. What mass are we talking about? The black hole will be tiny, but they're incredibly dense (IIRC) so are we talking micro-grammes / Kilo-grammes / tonnes? (I'm guessing not the latter as I assume the mass of stuff flying round the collider will be small)

Craig_1591:the school has a new internet system ![Angry [:@]](/emoticons/emotion-12.gif)
we have a quota time thing, everytime we go on a site that contains 'sport', 'society and lifestyle' or anything else (most of google) we can go on it for 10 minutes. Total amount is 60 minutes a week!!
but dcmag isn't blocked ![Big Smile [:D]](/emoticons/emotion-2.gif)
And congratulations! Now you've added those terms to the DCM forums, you'll be limited to 60 minutes a week on the forums at school! <snigger>. Shooting yourself in the foot there?? ![Big Smile [:D]](/emoticons/emotion-2.gif) H.

mattharrisuk:One thing thats really annoyed me, though it was the other day, is dog ***. Its everywhere! The law says you have to pick it up, if you own the dog that did it, that is. Dont just... do it. Why cant people just accept this and get on with it. Really irks me.
Wait until you have kids and spend an inordinate amount of time scraping it off their shoes, etc.
