I'd say its not a case of "It's too cheap" but its not valued highly enough. It is pretty cheap atm, but it is rising, and will continue to do so. The waste of it is more of a social problem and will happen no matter what the price is. What the supermarkets need to do is to reduce the prices and stop forcing "buy one get one free" offers down peoples throats.
Infact, Id suggest that supermarkets waste far too much food, because bread is so overpriced that the companies can afford to buy too much of it, sell it at a huge gain, and then throw away the waste. I cant prove this, but it must be whats happening, as Where I work a heck of alot of bread being thrown out each night, because we have a surplus 90% of the time, and this has been happening for years.
I think cabbages are also supposed to be one of the most wasted foods, as people buy whole ones, take off a bit then throw it away when it starts to go a bit crusty.
Fact is, no matter what we will run out of food, and there is not enough land or willing people in the country to feed the population. (How many people these days want to work in agriculture?) Eventually I reckon we'll get to a point where all of our food is imported, and in the long run we may end up with a situation similar to that of the oil problem (just without government tax) with global supply being short of global demand, and I dont think we'll ever be able to meet this demand, even if we do rejuvinate (sp?) our primary industries. So that leaves lowering demand, and the only way to do that is to shrink the population. Which is why we need a good old war ![Big Smile [:D]](/emoticons/emotion-2.gif)
Either that or those guys in white coats can make something to speed up food growth to a efficient rate to feed the population.
Now I think I shall go and get a drink, I've had 3 1/2 hours of economics exams (Which are like essays) Writers cramp..
