hevans  nice shot .. nice and clear... love the detail :) ..

Many thanks...I have to admit I'm really pleased with it. Big Smile [:D]

here is on of my ones..

any comments would be great ..

I like this one alot. Not sure whether I prefer the colour version in your gallery, though, as both work well. My only advice would be to crop the right side to the 3rd bolt from the right on the top of the cab, and crop from the top down to the top of the cab window. This makes the atmosphere of the conversation between the two a bit more intimate/close.

    Hi Rob.

I thought exactly the same as Heavens, the steam engine drivers shot looks much better with a tighter crop. My web browser scrolled the top of the image off the page - the lost tree space, and it appeared much better viewd like that - seemed to focus-down onto the conversation.

hi all, thought i'd add something different to this thread.

Was out on bike this afternoon and came across this small zap cats - small inflatable racing boats.  weatehr was very nice so no very exciting pictures.  Had a go at panning to capture the boats as they went round a mark close to the shore.  The photo below is the best one I took.

below a simple front on shot when the zap cat's got a little ai.

    My First Post.

    Red Sail Boat

I am new to SLR Photography and have been reading forums for about 5 months and learning a little at time. This is my first picture to be uploaded in a forum. Any constructive feedback would be much appreciated on this and any in my gallery.

     Regards, John

    That’s My Buoy

This is another taken on the same day. I was using the buoy and chain to lead the eye into picture as i've read in the  forums. Any constructive feedback would be much appreciated .

    Hi John,

It's a shot that does lead to the leading lines technique. If you were being conventional, though, you'd move around more to the right and place the red buoy in the lower left of the frame and let the chain then drag across the shot to the boat in the distance. The way it is now, there's a lot of wasted space on the left - you could try to crop the shot to a vertical format.

Also, you might load it into your favourite digital editor and have a play with the curves to bring up the contrast in the shot and the texture of the sky.

And for the other shot of the boat/mast, i'd rotate it ~20-30 degrees counter clockwise, and boost the contrast a bit (maybe burn the shadows in the sky and dodge the highlights to bring up the clouds a bit).

    Hope this helps,
    Hugh

    Hugh,

Thanks for some great advice. I have photoshop elements but had no idea where to start. Like bringing up clouds and everything else you mentioned...

What you have said has steered me in the right direction. I will copy original and have a go at your suggestions.

    Many thanks,

    John

    Re: Transportation- planes,boats and trains

This helicopter was doing some testing round the airfield where I work on a Saturday, so was able to get several shots.  I've also been playing with borders.  Comments welcome.

    Re: Transportation- planes,boats and trains

A different type of transport, floating crane Samson being towed by Tug Asterix, couldn't get a decent shot as they were too far out into the pentland firth when i finished my shift, what a bummer.

100% crop on pic taken with a 50mm lens, sorry about quality but it was an awesome sight yesterday
