    Spiritflier:

After all of the criticism and back-biting regarding the POTD choices recently, I thought I'd flip things over today and say 'well done' to Rachael for picking a really strong set of images for todays' selection.

    Outstanding images all of 'em!

I'll second that Si. Yesterday's offerings only managed to raise 15 comments from viewers, plus another four of course from the selectors.

I love Thursdays, as Rachel get to pick POTD, and as like last Thursday, she certainly knows a good shot or four. So well done yet again Rachel on picking four superb photo's for the front page.

    Crying [:'(] Re: POTD

Have we now gone back to POAOD (picture of any old day)?

All of the pictures today are really good, but they are pictures from the archive, are they not?

There isn't even an image from this month on the front page today.

Did you think that eveything submitted since lunchtime on Friday is rubbish?

Look at the contributions from Edwin Martinez, Filter99, Stuart Kerr, Shaz44, Steve McHale, and Wayne Molyneux to name but a few.

If you want to show off the truly excellent archive material on the site, then create a section for it(why not?) - please don't hjack POTD.

I hope this is not the beginning of a trend.

I wouldn't call it the 'archives'. We've had a lot of feedback either way - some members want us to give older shots a chance, others want only new shots. While we'll of course be featuring newly-uploaded shots, some days we will be concentrating on older material that for whatever reason didn't get a chance to shine when it was first uploaded.

How about a thread: recommend the POTD - only rule: it can't be from your own gallery.

    Re: POTD

H - the only problem with that is that you would have to host the pictures that you post in the thread elsewhere, which is a bit of a pain.

Can I just ask a silly question Big Smile [:D]... bearing in mind I'm a noobie and I can only aspire to get my pic on the front page sometime in the next millenium! Wink [;)]

What constitutes a "consistently high-quality photograph" as mentioned by JD?  Is it having a certain level of camera, following all the composition rules?  Should they be framed and signed?  Obviously there is a bit of consternation regarding photoshopping or not ... I have not worries there, I only know how to crop and resize, all other settings I just press auto!

    JD:
. . . some days we will be concentrating on older material that for whatever reason didn't get a chance to shine when it was first uploaded.

JD, would that include pictures from 'THE DAY' part of 'picture of THE DAY' that got missed because something from the older uploads took its place? (I still think 'archives' is the right word for something that isn't current).

I don't see why you can't do both; split the slots, have 3 for POTD and one for POY (pictures of yesterday).

I'm not averse to seeing the brilliant stuff of old that may have been missed (very far from it, the more the merrier).

Called me old fashioned, but 'of the day' strikes me as a possessive construction. If the picture is not 'of' the day, then it perhaps ought to be picture 'for' the day.

You might find me in pedants corner . . (the debate about an apostrophe or not in those last two words occupies many column inches in Private Eye every fortnight - there is no right answer, it would appear)

Far from it, you can link directly to their photo in their gallery, just as you include your own photos in the other threads of the forum.

I'm guessing that this would just be a photograph that is of consistenly high quality throughout the criteria of a good photograph: composition, exposure, originality, editing, etc., i.e. it would score high marks in all cases.

Whoever Him who is called I Am is, is it not the case that whoever it is and whatever He is called, normally  enlightens us with a few words of wisdom as to whoever is chosen by Him who is called I Am as to why it is they are selected.

    Why can't I get a simple answer to a simple question?Tongue Tied [:S]

Hi Abers, Marcus chose POTD yesterday and was intending to leave comments but meetings and sending the magazine to the printers prevented him from doing so. Apologies. Rach @ DCM

Why don't they just make the POTD from the last 24 hours and then the Mini ones from all of the galleries over any time period?
