Here's mine, probably not the best I took technically but the one I felt gave the best sense of motion.

    That's it folks....

The deadline for submissions has passed, with 21 entries - a very respectable level of participation. Everyone's submitted some really cracking good shots, on what I think we'd all agree as a difficult subject. I know I've improved my technique with these shots - just wish I'd had the time to practise more with the rear curtain sync, etc.

    The poll is available here.

But feel free to comment on the various entries in this forum.

    H.

Re: Weekend Competition: The Best Photographer in the world (14th-15th Oct 06)

So....the weekend competition entries have all been submitted and we're busy with the voting.

How about some feedback on the various entries???? I'll start...

Steve12: very nice colourful shot, creative and well executed. Sticks to the subject of the competition...but what is it??? Smile [:)]

Bluecabbage: nice car trails, it really needs to be viewed in full size so the road paint is visible, which improves the interest. but more is really needed, the picture lacks a focal point, or something in the foreground?

aussie shaun:  Nice shot, obviously you were thinking along the same lines as myself. I like this one, it verges on the abstract.

hevans: well, I won't comment on my own...but it was fun mucking around with the setup trying to get the shot.

kevip6: It's a nice shot of the wheel, but the motion is kind of lost. Try playing with the shutter speed so the wheel is only turning ~10 - 20 degrees (?) in the photo. I like the ghostly capture of the ball, but where did it go when the flash went off? Did you use a flash, or is it a superpositon of two shots? How did you get the ghostly ball, but clear numbers?

DaLuds: sorry, laundry just doesn't get me excited, just had too much to do this last weekend. The other shot of the birds was more to my tastes.

rob@dcmag: you also thought along the same lines as myself. I'd also tried initially to capture the second hand tick on my watch (see my gallery for the results).  I gave up because I was having difficulty making it into an interesting shot. still it was fun trying.

Allenh: this one was the favourite of my son (1.5 yrs old). Good capture of the streak...but a bit more space on the left would have been good - admittedly a moving target is difficult to shoot.

oRGie: This is just blatant showing off....Smile [:)] Great picture, and from the voting, one of the favourites. Really well done.

nomadr: This is my favourite. love the motion in the water and the canoeist, just brilliant. nuf said.

ian140: really nice B+W shot. I like it.. now if you could have gotten the bike coming off the stand and zooming away riderless, it would have been more amusing Devil [6]

Jack2: very good shot, good panning, well done. Nice streaking of the background, really sets the subject off well.

AnthonyMiller: I really like this, the way the buildings are visible through the fire engine. Really really nice. Wouldn't have known it was a firetruck without the title.

Hayley Roberts: Good shot of the cradle. Perhaps you could use a flash next time? It might make some of the balls clearer. Looking at their transparency at the extremes of the swing I am reminded of simple harmonic motion and how the velocity changes with displacement.....sorry getting too much into physics again Embarrassed [:$]

top totty: you need to sell this one to the Dr. Who producers - it looks like something the Tardis would go through while travelling. The colours and shapes are just great.

sue allen: I was surprised you didn't enter a good shot of a waterbird in action! The one of the mallard showing off his plumage was brilliant, or the B+W one.

Richsarg34: Good shot of the train, did you use a tripod, there's a bit of camera shake that fuzzes out the power lines and surroundings. The track leads the eye nicely.

Nat: really really interesting shot. Were they sparklers or a real pyromaniac at work?

Chris West: lovely carrousel, motion well captured. Did you also try panning with the horse/rider and blur out the background? It'd be interesting to see that version for a comparison.

Harry Shepherd: nice shot, very appealing, is it the same apple but from two sides, that would be quite an achievement.

rekitrallying: Wish I'd thought of taking the daughter off for a slide. Really nice shot, captures the motion well. I much prefer it to the others you posted in the reject thread.

Re: Weekend Competition: The Best Photographer in the world (14th-15th Oct 06)

Thanks Hevans but after missing one train and wating 15 min for the next I decided to pack up and go as I was actually supposed to be visiting family, of course on my way back to the car I heard the train ran to the bridge and fired off a shot, the result shows.

thanks Hevans...I, myself, didn't like my own entry Sad [:(]LOL...I should have rejected this one and keep the birds, Crying [:'(]...but too blurry... I like the apple by Harry Shepherd - I voted for Harry this time...I like yours too, in fact, as I told you, I was trying my gold plated pendulum that moves both ways but no success...anyway, the intention is to have fun.  Thanks everyone and congratulation to whoever wins.Wink [;)]

Thanks Hevans. Very interested to see your physics view - gets into Newtons third law - every action has an equal and opposite reaction (but then taking into account the air resistance and other factors which would slow it down...). (I did physics A-level so have a general idea where you're coming from)
