    Re: Panorama

AyJayEl, I'm glad you started the thread too. some great pics.

I'm curious to know what software you all use. i have paint shop pro 8 and can't find the STITCH feature in it.

I do my stitching in photosuite 7 , its a bit hit and miss and really slows my 256Mb machine down. but gets there in the end.

great idea for a thread too Big Smile [:D]

i've had a couple of goes at panorama shots which i've stitched together in CS2 - but unlike all of you i end up with nasty diagonal lines all over the place - can any one tell me what i'm doing wrong , or point me towards a tutorial ?

    Many thanks Smile [:)]

    Re: Panorama

Gill, not sure what you mean by nasty diagonal lines but I'm guessing it's where your photos join. Are you letting the camera decide the exposure? You should set the exposure based on the brightest part of the image and fix it for the rest of it.

    Re: Panorama

Gill...are you allowing a large enough overlap on each segment. Recent article in "another magazine" suggested a third of a frame (I think!) each time.
When you believe it, you will see it!

    Re: Panorama

Hi and thanks for the comments on the Paris panorama. That one was stitched together with a free (or cheap) Ulead package, Coolsomething or other.
I'm now using the panorama tool in PS Elements 5, seems to do the job just fine. For technique I keep all settings the same throughout the shoot and overlap by about 1/3rd of a frame. I've seen ppeople use fancy 'off centre' tripods but I've hand-held before, just need to crop more off!!

    Re: Panorama

AyJayEl , thanx, thats what I figured.

I have an old version of MGI photosuite that will stitch 2 together really well, and then die, crashing my PC in the process.

photosuite 7 will stitch unlimited shots together, does a decent job, but takes ages. I learnt a good while back that planning is important too.

plan the panorama / stitch shot in advance, ...aim,focus, lock AF on exactly the same  point for each shot.

then while holding AF lock, pan around, shoot.

e.g. the pier shot, all 5 or 6 images started being spot focussed on the bit in the middle of the pier. Locked, panned and shot. otherwise all your bits of sky or fore ground will expose differently, making for a messy stitch.

    hope that makes sense.

    Re: Panorama

    some brilliant shots here folks!!

I remembered an article in DC mag went through the process of taking panoramas, stiching them together and printing....quick search discovered: issue 48, July 2006!  so if you have the mag laying around it maybe worth a read!

Hey, I'm psychic (either that or mental Stick out tongue [:P]). DCM plopped onto my mat this morning and the front page pull out is all about panoramas. AND they used the S5 (my camera!). Whoohoo!. Will have to get out and take some more.

Thanks. I took a photo of myself reflected in the shed window then split toned it. Sufficiently blurred for me. LOL.

Joe and Sam are great! Still on phoenix2go.co.uk. Sam's birthday yesterday! Why don't you pop in and say hello again?
