    Re: Post Edit Best

This is one I did for the weekend comp, and it got zero votes, but I like it anyway and it took ages to do. The background is blue art paper stuck to the wall, a green light was to the left and an amber light to the right and I shone a mini mag light through the heart from behind. The heart was suspended from a broomstick duct taped to a step ledder. Initially I used string, but the heart kept moving and as the low light meant a slow shutter speed it was blurred. So I used copper wire instead, waited for it get still, the took the shot. On ps cs2 I adjusted levels, cropped, levelled the heart and cloned out the copper wire.

Guy Roberts - As I said in my comments, it is a great shot and well worked out. Why it didn't have a vote I can't answer that. I still say well done. Big Smile [:D]

    Hi Guy,

The only thing I feel it's lacking is a sense of depth to the heart. It doesn't look like the heart is floating in air. If there was a shadow from the heart on the background, that'd probably add more depth.

I konw what you mean, and the ironic thing is that I went to great lenghts not to have a shadow as I didn't want the background to be solid.

Gill - Which picture do you prefer? To my eyes the smaller looks like a picture whereas, the second look like a painting. Just shows what can be done, when you play around with the tools in a program. Big Smile [:D]

    Re: Post Edit Best

I think i prefer the second one - it's more intense and looks good printed - the first one is just a picture of a rose - not bad but nothing special.  But the change is done only thru curves. At the time i was trying to teach myself Paintshop Pro - in the end i got quite good at it (basic bits anyway) then my other half got me Photoshop CS2 - i found it really difficult and hated it at first, but i've kept at it - it's so powerful i don't think i'll ever really get the hang of it, even if the DC cds do help. Any tips gratefully received !

You didn't say which one you prefered (if at all Smile [:)]) (i've changed them to be about the same size so they're easier to compare)

I thought I indicated that by saying, the second looks like a painting. Big Smile [:D]

    tulum silouette15.jpg

The day I took this it was dull, grey and rainy so that the original sky was completely featureless. I used CS2 to duplicate the layer and apply the linear burn filter. That brought out the sky but darkened the ruin. I was going to use the layer mask to bring the original ruin back out but decided to flatten and burn to make the silouette.

This is an old one from my gallery. Combined two photos using layers, flipped one round and reduced opacity of the layer and changed to black and white.

This is also from my gallery. It's the first montage I made using Photoshop. There are too many 'originals' to post with this one! The main photo is meant to be a wall, with my grandchildren sat in front of on the floor, which was created using a textured background (to look like a carpet), I used 'lighting effects' to create the 'spotlights', created the shadows using another layer and dragging them to shape on the 'floor'. The rest of the photos are layers with lighting effects and shadows......I have to make another one....I now have another grandson! lol

    Re: Post Edit Best

    elusive, thats a gorgeous picture.

this started offas a badly taken blurry picture

    DSCF3794380.jpg

I gave it a slight crop in photosuite III - increased the saturation in PSPro 8. - took it back to Photosuite / special FX / Paintings ( a few times to increase the effect)

then finally back to PSPro / Effects / Artistic / Contours.

    I kinda like this one.
