Thanks "eddo123", It does take some work to get shots like that, more than people relise I think?

adesw- May I suggest that you consider the rule of thirds when composing your shots.  Not a rul I alway stick to but one that I always consider and one I think that would improve your potential as you do have some potentially great pics/  In my opinion of course.

Good suggestion Martin, I second that. All my 3 images use the rule of thirds to great effect.

Re: Landscape Photography, Discuss and Crit

I only just found out what the rule of thirds is a week ago, while taking those shots as I picked up a copy of digital slr user to read while away.

Im still not sure where the focal point in a landscape shot is.

this one was taken with my understanding of the rule of thirds. With the sea/horizon only a third of the way up the frame. But im sure Ive got it wrong.

Apart from that one havent really paid any attention to it, though I may start to once I understand how to :p. Plus, Ive only been doing it for a month :p

    thanks for the tips though

    Nick,
I like your images ... the second reminds me of one of my own; except I was in a slightly flatter place!

Re: Landscape Photography, Discuss and Crit

yeh the rule of thirds makes images more pleasing in general.
also try to include some foreground interest if shooting landscapes.
i usually do this by shooting on 14-18 mm, and composing so some rocks, flowers or even long tufts of grass are in the foreground.
also surise and sunset are the better times to shoot landscapes because of the warm tones that the light gives and the colours in the sky.
but its down to personal preferance really

Re: Landscape Photography, Discuss and Crit

    Here's one of mine.
It was one of those times when the light just wouldn't play ball. It was very flat and uninspiring. The sky cleared briefly and allowed me to get this.
The photo is taken behind the village of Turville in South Bucks; the windmill was used in the film Chitti Chitti Bang Bang and was formerly owned by the actress Hayley Mills.
Enough of the background stuff .. hope you like the image ... any comments always welcome,
