Care to enlighten us further Dave ?

I for one enjoyed your DCM gallery.

The general attitude, from those that voiced their opinion was "If you don't like showing your photos, why have a gallery?" Namecalling didn't help with this. Finally, one user asking/instructing me to leave... that's what caused me to rethink. But, I'll post a few into this thread...

    Dave

get your gallery back up and fook those opinions. How dare they !

Envy does strange things to some people as we seen with our friend over the border  who courted praise from  being on the front page every day and damaging other galleries.

Your images, views and talent needs to be shared in this community

I for one amongst many others would be much happier if you returned. I have always enjoyed your gallery and have often wondered if I'll ever get shots like yours. I know that everyone has there own ideals of what is a great picture, what is good and what does not appeal, however I've always enjoyed your gallery so come back.

Re: STREET LIFE - Post your street life work here

    Guys,

Thanks for all the support for Bolton Dave's work

B Dave - I think this says it all so please get some of your work posted on here when you have a minute as we'd all like to see it and I would very much like to see you as being part of this area.

Wayne - Brilliant street work, very much like the tone that you have applied here.

    Top Tip;

Many people believe that street photography suit a mono image, whilst this is true there is no reason why you can't experiment and apply a tone over the image to set a mood for instance, cool can set a cold or harsh tone whilst a warmer off sepia can take the image in the other direction and sometimes make it feel reminiscent of days past without having to use a harsh sepia.

    Example below for me.

Here's another image for the thread, this time its in a shopping centre and uses the simple idea of a large poster that I noted many passing 'assistant' shoppers taking notice of. Hope this acts as an example that the simplest of ideas can often pay off, its just a matter of time.

Re: STREET LIFE - Post your street life work here

Here's a couple of old shots.  The guy in the image sits outside our local Post Office every day.  It's a good pitch as lots of people use this place to collect their pensions or Dole money and slip him a bob or two as they leave.  Others care enough to have a chat with him.  He, like many others in this situation, are lost souls and have no real identity other than a percieved one we give them.  Who's to say he isn't a doctor or an engineer - a father or grandfather?  The slow shutter speed effect was deliberate to express the loss of identity.

Time passes everyone by so quickly.  We don't pay much attention to it untill we look at old photos of ourselves and compare them with the recent ones.  Don't waste it on trivia.

Tim, your shopping centre shot has always been a favorite of mine. Love it. I keep going back to it. Just wish it was in my  gallery though.Big Smile [:D] Talking to strangers in the street really puts me off. I think I could get some interesting shots with a compact....must try it. But the effect of my 10-20 lens is hard to leave behind....though you do have to really stick it in peoples faces to get 'the shot'. I've tried a zoom lens from a distance....boy, that really doesn't work for me. People close to you see the huge extension (ooh err!) and immediately stop and stare and wonder who you're looking at. I even had a group of girls (the worsed) jokingly shout out Stalker in the middle of a busy park....I was even stood with my wife! ............maybe I should have just said ' In your dreams fatty ' but this attitude does make me nervous. It's also what makes this kind of shot so interesting....it's not easy! What I need is a Harry Potter invisibility cloak.

Wayne, I like the Japan shots...good tones.

Dave B - superb street stuff mate, really great - I know this is an area that interests you and I'm still keen to meet up and hit Blackpool on a wet winters day if your up for it?

you will have to let me know if you guys intend to goto blackpool for a shoot Big Smile [:D] oddly David and myself have already been there once but it would be great to meet up again and meet you as well Tim Smile [:)]

All sounds good to me. I'd love to meet up ...but Blackpool? If you're thinking the odd tourist on the front or the arcades etc I think you've got the wrong place...It's hardly Scarborough. It's mainly large gangs of drunk hen and stag partys just looking to give 3 blokes with cameras a kicking.Big Smile [:D]

Yeah, but one's an old Navy commando, should make you feel a bit safer...unless the "commando" means he doesn't wear underpants?! Big Smile [:D]

Hi Dave, totally understand if you have had a bad experience but as I said before its really just like landscape photography, except urban in nature.

Your point on the SLR is one I hear a lot and its why the older famous guys favoured a rangefinder Leica, but hey 'I'll take a dozen', right who can afford that!

Its a great art and its these very reasons that its dying and that's a shame and most likely a result of changes in society, however that's the very fuel that can push photographers onwards to capture that change for the future historians.

    A broad view I know.

In reference to the 'commando' comment, I do wear underwear, usually and I used to be 17 stone with a 30 inch waist, 10 years on I'm 14 stone with a 32 inch waist, but the confidence is still there and I never run, probably regret that one day...lol

Check out the bad tash, that's gonna scare anybody away, apart from making me look like an apprentice porn star!

    Guys,

Just to let know that I mailed Rachel and Rob yesterday at DCM to make them aware of what I was trying to achieve through this new area and help others.

Glad to report that Rachel is now promoting it on the front of the main site in the news area.

    Thanks Rachel

Re: STREET LIFE - Post your street life work here

Fantastic thread Tim, great pictures from everyone and very inspirational.

I'm one of those who doesn't like approaching people or being seen in busy streets taking pictures, makes me nervous.

However, looking at the quality of work in this thread is making me a bit jealous so I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and try it... soon Big Smile [:D]

    Keep up the great work.

    Kev.
