    Re: Starting a website!

It's been mentioned earlier in this thread but I thought I'd mention it again...

I set myself a goal for 2008 of creating a website by the end of the year.  I thought it would be quite a task, after all I know nothing about html coding blah blah blah, but i was sure with the right advice and guidance I could probably create something...not too sophisticated, but tasteful with a few galleries to display my work.  After all, if your only showing off images, why the need for anything fancy.

After a little searching I came across this Mr Site software, well it's not really software as it's all web based, but for 25 quid (I think now you pay 35 quid) you get a box with a disk, instruction manual, password and a free domain name providing it isn't already taken.

The bottom line is it's as easy or difficult to use as you want.  There are 3 levels of difficulty... simple, creative or advanced (which utilisis html coding).  My site was created using mainly the creative mode, which uses similar tools to microsoft word, but even the simple mode allows you to create a very attractive product.  Within 2 weeks I'd created something I was very pleased with, and I'd never had any previous experience with web design.  Furthermore my scoring on google is excellent.  A search of my personal name produces a result on page 1, and my rating as a .co.uk site places my site above the .com site of the same name.  All the tools to achieve this are included.

Anyway check it out for yourself...

Stuart nice looking site. You do have a lot of errors in your base.css file. Run it through the w3c validator, it will tell you the errors and give suggestions on how to fix them. As a result of these errors some browsers may not display your pages correctly.

I am currently setting up a little one using Mr Site.... it's OK, but faffy and I am getting frustrated with it.  I have picked it up and put it down so many times!

If anyone knows anyone who has used Mr Site and can give me a hand out of the goodness of their heart let me know hehe

    Stevey:

If anyone does decide to diy it and has any problems give me a shout I know most languages and such like, its what I do for a living.. I've recently progressed to the level of 'code hacker' lol Smile [:)]

Just want to say a huge thankyou to Stevey, he's given me a ton of advice on how to improve the coding on my web site.
