Ohh, while on the subject, how does the sigma 10-20mm handle CA?

Im considering getting one, as its much cheaper then the nikon equiv.

    Suprisingly well for a ultrawide.
Its a bit soft though sometimes, but I think thats just cause it is so wide.

Nice shot Martin, great wide angle view of a magnificent bridge (one that I've been over more than a few times). You've captured a nice light there, cracking sky and I like the tones and detail in the wild shrubs, trees and greenery.

Re: The HDR Tips and Tricks Thread.

    Thankyou.

I'm begining to develop a work flow for it, and learning what works and what doesn't.

I'm also finding that some parts of the workflow are best left to photoshop and not photomatix. (like brightness, which seems to be best adjusted through curves.)

I also love the washed out, yet still punchy colours you get from creating a high (ish) contrast black and white layer and then reducing the opacity of it.

Crap weather today, so No chance of really going out anywhere in my break.

So I spent 20 minutes finshing off the photo I posted yesterday, cause the white balance was too cold.

The biggest hurdle I find with hdr is you easily end up with a halo around the buildings if you ramp up the settings too high

Yeah people tell me it's to do with the micro smoothing. Wind that back and the halos can diminish.

Ade - nice. They look like something out of one of those computer games.
Kidography. It's like photography. But more fun.

Knocking back the Halos I think is best done by setting 'Light Smoothing' to 'very high'. Third setting down in Details Enhancer.

Here's one of my recent HDR conversions, I was trying for a softer painterly effect with this one. Feedback always appreciated Smile [:)].

With reference to Veggiesosage's post about the new anti-terrorism posters in the soap-box section , I saw this whilst trawling through the link he posted...

If anyone reads this and then sees Matt setting up for a shot (or 5), they'll be on the phone in a heart-beat (just kiddin') Big Smile [:D]Wink [;)]

Re: The HDR Tips and Tricks Thread.

Just came across this thread, its an interesting subject in that many people seem to believe these days that HDR is some magical tool that makes their work 1000 times better. I agree in some ways with the comments that people have made previously that it does have its own distinctive look and therefore is quite obviously in use when you view this sort of work, at least that's what they say.

I have only tried HDR once, I don't personally think it fits in with the style I have, it also would create quite literally 3 times the work for me as its better to use lighting I feel to try and achieve as much as possible in camera. I know this is not every bodies cup of cha but its good, I hope, to view point another perspective on things?

If I need to make use of an area within a image that is over 3 stops difference or its something that I just can't light then I will use phase one software to adjust that exposure and then using layers and masks in CS I'll blend them in. I personally feel that this sits much more in line with what the human eye feels is normal.

This of course is just a view point, and in truth, I don't use HDR because I just can't get the same results out of it, mainly as I know so little about it and I'm so rubbish at knowing how to use it. Ok I admit I used it once! Didn't work for me, but that's quite possibly just me...lol

Cheers and well done on a very interesting thread Matt.

Re: The HDR Tips and Tricks Thread.

Well I've been taking matts advice and underdoing it in photomatix to make it look really natural, if slightly flat, then I pushed it up in photoshop with curves burning dodging and layers. I'm quite happy with the results.
