rob@dcmag:Hi guys, just thought i would add some comments on the entries this week (thanjks for the nice comment about my photo Hevans). [....] Hevans: Nice contrasts and textures, a good shot. i know this might sound strange, but have you tried it in B+W?. your alternative entry is good too, like the water droplets on the pears.
Thanks, I originally posted the pear, then changed my mind, but before the magical witching hour approached. The water was thoughtfully added by nature...it was absolutely bucketting it down a few minutes before I took the shot.
I hadn't thought of going for B+W, I'll have a play and see how it comes out. Thanks for the suggestion. H.

Richsarg34:Hi All
Thanks for the great comments, I have listened to the advice and played with the picture a little (probably ruined it!!) and posted an amended version on my Gallery for comments.
Unless you save over the original, you've never ruined it...unlike my mother's table cloth that I set fire to... I had a look at the edited version and wondered if you were trying to keep with the 4x5 aspect ratio when you cropped? I ask because you took off some of that lovely deep rich blue of the sky that contrast so well with the yellows/oranges/reds of the sunset. I feel the colour variation helps to draw the eye into the picture. With the cropping, I was only thinking of taking off some of the beach at the bottom of the photo, a minor tweak to a great picture.
Of course, the most important thing is for you to have the photo YOU like! H.

Magic used excessive photoshopping in his photo... I found his original on the web without the cloning out of the trumpet: ![Big Smile [:D]](/emoticons/emotion-2.gif) Sorry, couldn't resist, despite my PSP skills leaving something to be desired.

Very Good H.
Just when I was fearing that this thread was beginning to take itself a tad too seriously.
I am going to resist the obvious one about what has a hazelnut in every bite?
Cheers!

Re: Weekend Competition: The Best Photographer in the world (29th - 1st Oct 06)
Just one other point that I think needs clarifying (by Cedar?) - are entries in our Weekend Competitions supposed to be straight from the camera - no post processing apart from re-sizing, or is pp allowed? I was under the impression they were to be without pp, but maybe this rule was specific to our very first competition set by hevans which required our camera to be in the image "without the use of Photoshop"?

The post-editing rule was specifically for the first competition, I didn't want people to take a nice photo and then just edit in their camera. I wanted them to look for reflections and see how they could include the camera. That said, IMHO, I think excessive post editing is a bit outside the spirit of the competition, but this shouldn't preclude what I'd consider "normal" editing, such as: cropping, levels adjustments, HSV changes, the odd bit of cloning out artefacts. H.

Re: Weekend Competition: The Best Photographer in the world (29th - 1st Oct 06)
hevans:As it's now fallen off the first/last page (depending how you've configured your forum viewing), here's a recap of the voting instructions. Cedar:Thanks to everyone who played again this week. We are getting bigger every week.
Unfortunately Top Totty cannot have her photo submitted because it was taken on Friday. Top Totty, I am really sorry to do this but rules are rules and I cannot decide to let you off because it is not fair on the rest.
This week, photos must be sent to me so I can check they were actually taken on the weekend. Some are of fantastic quality and you should be very proud of yourself.
Anyway, get voting.

Yeah, pp is allowed unless the instructions specifically say it isn't.
Thanks again all,
I want to be "The Best Photographer in the World 15th-17th Sep 2006" :)
