David Bracher:Hevans : Thanks for the comments. It's good to see someone brave enough to do that. I find I'll only comment if somebody actually asks for comments or help. Knowbody really seems to like negatives. I still dish them out now and again but only when I think' Wow that's a great shot...if only you'd just....'
Well, the comments are intended to be taken as constructive, or to give an alternative idea - definitely not to offend. I live in Holland, where everyone is quite thick skinned and complete strangers are extremely willing to give you their opinion, whether you asked or even wanted it, e.g.: complete stranger: "your child needs a haircut", me: "you need a lobotomy". Of course telling them to 'eff off on occasion offends them, but...generally you have to be thick skinned, and assume they are as well.
Now I see what your B/w shot was, I like the idea...I think you could have got a decent B/W from it with a crop and a bit of dodge and burning.
Hmmm, maybe I'll offer a "silk purse out of a sow's ear" competition, to see how everyone edits it? Boltondave was talking about an activity/challenge like that, which I think would be quite fun to participate in.
Considering some haven't done B/W conversions before I think they've all done well and hope they go on and do some more. There's something timeless about a good B/W and they look great blown up big on the wall, where colour shots can be too overpowering for most rooms.
agree completely on both points. Great shots, and looks like (almost?) everyone was inspired to try something new.
