Well, no fireworks here in Holland...and nary a bonfire in sight. Spent the evening setting fire to the kitchen, and came up with this, which I call "Don't try this at home Big Smile [:D]"

There've been some great shots this week, especially of the fireworks!

Cudos to Top Totty for picking a really challenging topic...getting the exposure right just seems to be a matter of trial and error...or bracketing...call it what you will.

Since there are so many firework shots, would there be any interest in me posting a poll for voting on just the firework shots? This would be in addition to the weekend competition poll (where all shots submitted would be included as normal, with one per person, to avoid overloading the polling software).

    Thoughts?

And why would i find this usefulAngry [:@]

    Andy,

Why might you find this useful? – Well Err!!!!!!!!!!!!

The bottom right hand section of your photo clearly shows sparks from the firework landing on other fireworks for a kick off.

Back in the 1980’s I spent 7 years as a reserve fireman and on bonfire nights (mid Oct thru to end Nov) putting out minor fires caused by crass stupidity, mostly boundary or hedgerow fires. No big deal but occasionally we got to put out a real fire cased by idiots who hadn’t got a clue. (Great Fun)

On last Friday (Nov 3rd) night / Saturday morning, my wife returned home from work as a theatre nurse having spent 11 hours in theatre with a 7 year old boy, he has lost the sight in one eye completely but has a fair chance of retaining almost 20% of the sight in his now good eye. He is 7 years old, will spend the rest of his life being registered as disabled, he will never lead a normal life as once the cosmetic surgeons have finished with him, in about 20 years, he will still look like someone who had a firework go off in his face and will be registered blind.

Why? Because a spark from a firework re-ignited one of those “single display” fireworks which had not completely expired. Two rockets were ignited by a stray spark, one seemingly went skywards without causing any real harm, the other hit the 7 year old full on in the face and has changed his and his families life forever, not to mention my wife’s. She has dealt with numerous instances in the past, kids have lost fingers, been disfigured, second / third degree burns are commonplace but this was the worst yet, largely due to the state of the parents and their reaction when told of the extent of his injuries and what the long term implications are.

When will people learn that fireworks are not toys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please read the link attached to my previous post as based on your photo, you clearly do not fully realise the implications of using fireworks. It is never the irresponsible adults that get hurt, it always seems to be the trusting kids.

(sorry everyone – I am having a serious moment – I don’t do this very often, or very well, I just get a little (well quite a lot actually) angry when I see something like this) Oh and I absolutely hate fireworks, never used to, it just creeps up on you when you see what they do to (other) people when not treated with proper respect.
