    Re: Post Edit Best

Thankyou shelfy Smile [:)]. I have many discs with photos of my grandchildren, I like to 'play' in Photoshop. My main interest is repairing old photos, there is only one surviving wedding photo of my parents and it was well worn over the years, I took me absolutely ages to do but I am quite proud of the end result. I like the effect you have on yours, thanks again shelfy.

    Re: Post Edit Best

Elusive - I did a similar thing with pics of my kids, i.e. a collage on a textured background.  My background was a close-up of a tree-trunk as the bark caught my eye.  I lightened it and played with the saturation, then cut pics of my kids from various snaps and pasted them onto it to produce a collage.  As the pics inherited the colours of the background (can't rememebr how I did that, or if it was automatic), the net effect was a kind of textured sepia look to it, that I was pretty chuffed with.  If I can find it I'll post it up in here.  Amazing what ideas you can come up with when you start messing with levels in Photoshop :)

    Re: Post Edit Best

Here's my first entry into this thread:

    Here's the original:

    Here's how I did it:
    1) Crop & rotate 90 degrees
    2) Levels adjustment layer
    3) Curves adjustment layer to boost the blacks of the background and increase the whites in the smoke
    4) Further Curves adjustment to increase the black area with selective masking of the smoke so that remained at the same brightness level.
    5) Hue Saturation level to boost the colour of the smoke
    6) New layer gradient filled with a colour gradient set to 'Overlay' mode so only the smoke colour was changed

There's a few more in my gallery. I particularly like the white ones, the only step differing from the above is after the crop and rotate, do a image/adjustments/inverse to change it to white background and dark smoke.

Cathus, this is outstanding mate, really different, I love it. The post production work has really brought the raw elements together to produce what is not short of complete art work. Great image well done again.

Got one here from me that is no way near as interesting I'm afraid but the post production work was huge just on account of the fact that it was taken in a brightly lit garage where all the ceiling pannels gave off reflections, the challange being to try and get rid of most of these and add some mood... Let me know what you think guys?

    Re: Post Edit Best

I'm new here (and to photgraphy) so I don't have an extensive catalogue. I posted this in the "Show your best" thread and was advised to crop it down. The original is here:

Following suggestions from the forum users I have cropped it and placed the star following (roughly)the thirds rule. Let me know what you think.

Tim, I bet you get fed up with all the praise but your shots always look like professional advertising shots. This one's no exception. I have only had my DSLR for a few weeks now (The shot above taken with a compact) and I have to say that your pics amongst others are an inspiration.

The crop is far better vinson, makes a lot more of the pic and with the star being larger it draws your eye to it

    Re: Post Edit Best

Cathus that smoke shot is ace, was it incense sticks? (I remember reading the thread and how to set up the shots, will definately have a go at that)

    Method:

    Copied the background layer
Converted the copy to black and white using channel mixer
erased the layer where the chillies are to bring the red through using selection>delete and eraser for fine bits.
Flattened, boosted the contrast and fixed levels a bit.

Not too much editing really, but the most I've done in a while
    cheers, froj
