Finally got some Landscape pics. To late for this weeks comp.

Critique desired and required as I am trying out landscapes.

Please comment on the above two pictures as really struggling with the landscacpe theme.

    Thanks in advance

i posted a bit of stuff to consider when shooting landscapes on the previous page, take a look, and bear that in mind when shooting, and with any luck you will become more confident at shooting landscapes

    Hi Guy,
Although I'm no expert I'll give you my comments.

    Picture 1
The whole image seems a little over exposed which leads to the sky being undefined which is a shame as there are lots of clouds which I feel would add to the photo if they were a little more prominent. If you shoot in RAW this should be fairly easy to address.

I like the path through the flowers although I would personally crop about a third up to eliminate the larger expanse of grass and crop the sky down to maintain the rule of thirds.

    Picture 2
I find my eye wandering around looking for a focal point. I think the two paths leading in different directions work against one another. I would crop about a third up, just under the hedge and then about a third in from the right, just at the right hand side of the hedge. This would give you a single path moving in a diagonal from bottom right to top left. As said above, I would also work on the sky to darken it a bit to provide a better definition of the clouds.

These are only my opinions; the great thing about photography is that there are no absolute rights and wrongs, if the photograph pleases you then you're half way there!

Incidentally, picture 2 was a little large in the horizontal which made it difficult to view as a whole; if you limit your images to around 650 pixels wide they will fit in the window.

    Regards .... Dave

    Dave,

Thanks for the advice, very much appreciated. Unfortunately do not have the advantage of being able to shoot RAW. I did try and meter on the clouds but this left the rest under exposed. I will have a play in Paint Shop to see if I can darken the clouds.

Once again thanks for the comments, they have been a great help.

    Regards

    Hadrian's Wall

I love landscapes, especially early mornings and it there's mist so much the better.

    This was taken last Wednesday.

Three fantastic shots posted, but this one is stunning. Great colours and the mist/haze in background adds real atmosphere to the whole. Big Smile [:D]
