This is my best so far. It's my husband, Kirk, with our nephew, Kyle, on Christmas Day 2007.

    Opinions welcome.

Thanks aquila. Though Doding the highlights in the eyes would have done it more justice.

    Maybe next time :p

Wow - some amazing pictures here.  Here's one I took last week during the Fallas festival in Valencia

    Fallera

Can anyone tell me why her face has a strange wobbly halo round it - it doesn't have it on my file but whenever I upload to my gallery it appears - is it a compression thing?  How to avoid it in future?

    Thanks

    Alex

Got that many shots of Jack recently I decided to push the boat out a bit and did a triptych!Wink [;)]

Click for full view (bout 800k ish)

*edit Thanks for the comments MC I don't think it works too well as a combination of 3 so I deleted it and put the two strongest ones up instead Wink [;)]

Re: Portrait thread - post yours here ...

So many great photos on here!

Gdallas - two great shots - sounds like you had a very amenable model!  Beolens - 2 great photos from you as well - I especially like the lighting in the second.

Browndog - I like the colour treatment of yours.

Stevey - I love the one of Jack as a baby - it is a beautiful portrait with wonderful lighting and soft skin.  The B&W suits it perfectly but then I do love B&W baby photos.

Gill - great photography!  I prefer the first as I love the composition and high key effect

Peter - again great photography.  I especially love the second one of the old lady, but the fourth comes a close second.

Sorry I've missed loads of you - too many pictures to mention them all!

Here's a candid one of my 2 year old daughter.

And one of my youngest at 8 months

I would love to improve my portrait photography - so all comments gratefully received.

The shot looks a bit off-balance, compositionally speaking. Maybe more space to the left... dunno.

Also, for a portrait, the eyes really should be sharp. These are in focus, but not sharp.

The general rule for portraits is, "eyes should be sharp". And as always, rules can be broken. To me, this one works well.

One from myself, taken in less than ideal circumstances... an unknown subject staring straight at me, too much clutter between myself and the subject, etc...
