Re: CHAT FOR THE WEEKEND COMPETITION 19th-20th JULY 2008

I find myself happily during a momentary lull in the interruption to our dsl service -

David - yours hasn't got a whole door in it eitherSurprise [:O]

shelfy - the harsh lighting that you refer to in my excellent work this week is the result of something that here in France we refer to as 'sunshine'. I appreciate that living as you do in the teeth of ferocious and never ending storms Storm [st] Umbrella [um] that it might not be that familiar a concept . . . Big Smile [:D]

Due to said 'sunshine', half of the door was in what we call 'shadow' which is the dark bit where the light doesn't reach - ok, stop that thought right there . . Zip it! [:#]

Fab reviews for such a busy person to have done in such a short time.

    TTFN,

LOL Shelfy - no it's not my door but only because someone else thought of the idea first. Big Smile [:D] Thanks for the review and now get back to work - it's long since stopped raining. Wink [;)]

Kate1308 - 'Village Doors' …doors and more doors…has the feel of those Irish Tourist Board posters featuring …”Doors of Ireland”…there’s probably one in  a themed bar near YOU somewhere. Loads of colour, loads of detail, loads to look at. Whats not to like here…great work Kate, I can tell a lot of care and attention went into this

ps…don’t forget my invite for your birthday party next month.

Thanks for the kind words :) You are very welcome to come to my birthday if you are willing to sit in a trendy London bar with lots of 20-somethings. Don't really know why I'm going to be honest. Sounds awful.

    Big Smile [:D]

hmmph, it is indeed time to go back to work...and it has indeed stopped raining...Hark! Tractor man Cometh.

thanx Kate...having (mis) spent much of the last 20 years in trendy London bars surrounded by twenty somethings, luvvies and media whores, I could easily be tempted, though only if your friends promise not to behave themselves..

ps, the tubes from Donegal are pretty iffy so if I'm late, go ahead and start without me.

Thanks for the review again and kind words. I think the only thing worse than being searched in that room would be being searched when it was about 1 degree, which it was on Saturday night. This particular prison was still used up until 1991 and has just been nominated to be world heritage listed.

Stunning review as usual Shelfy - found myself holding my sides a couple of times and the other office plebs (I'm one too - thought I would point that out!!) were all staring at me as if I had eaten my foot!

Haven't been on for a while - might get round to trying to participate this week.

Undecided on where my vote is going so far - there are lot of really good entries this week. It's gonna be a touch choice.......

    shelfy:

GUY1970 - 'Square Door'  this is well spotted, a superb door, a wonderful bit of antiquarian ironmongery. The pic doesn’t quite do it justice, I’m not sure why, maybe it needs more texture, shooting from a lower angle / face on, showing a little more of the beautiful stonework…I really don’t know and feel quite bad that I can’t be more helpful…this has potential.

On the other hand I feel quite good that cutting silage today has been postponed due to the p*ssing rain, hurrah. Lets hear it for p*ssing rain.

Great review as always Shelfy. Thanks for the comments.

After great diliberation my vote has gone to David Bracher - Great image, my wife suggested this as a shot, but I couldn't quite work out how to make it interesting. Would never have thought of taking the shot from inside the machine.

    Some superb entries this week.

mirrorimage - 'KEEPERS COTTAGE' a lovely rustic bit of erm…stuff. The subject is great, a fantastic old letterbox. The shot, I don’t think does it justice, too many mid-tones for me. Good composition though.

Thanks for the comments Shelfy. I'ts good to get feedback.

So how do i sort out my mid-tones? Confused [*-)]

Re: CHAT FOR THE WEEKEND COMPETITION 19th-20th JULY 2008

Shelfy...thanks for the kind review.  I don't post much in the threads anymore, but like to enter the competitions when I can find something that qualifies. Go to lots of car shows during the summer as we own a classic car....thus the car door.

DuckPrints by Rebecca - 'Red Door' …Wow…how funky and retro is this?  in a sort of Chrome and cosseted shiny kind of way. That’s a gorgeous bit of chrome that has been attended to with love and respectful wonderment…Cool, colourful and very funky. I think a nice close-up detail shot of just the handle and window lever would make a great shot too…great stuff.

Guy Roberts - 'That great big door in the sky' ah. Good morning…Rene Maigreetings to you….hahaha. super image. I can’t believe this has a total so far of “ABSOLUTELY NO VOTES WHATSOEVER - - - NOT EVEN ANY”. It’s a corking bit of work, well done Guy.

    Bob Dylan…knocking on Heavens door…

Course you all know Bob Dylan…the poor mans Donovan.

    I thank you, kind sir.

    shelfy:

filter99 -'all ye who enter . . '  Sure is a big b*gger of a door. I would imagine passers by who were not familiar with the door, would, on chancing upon it, comment on what a big b*gger of a door it is. Then they’d mumble something under their breath about really having wanted to go to Alton towers. For sure a strong entry, and erm…a very very strong door. Great sense of scale to the composition.

Indeed you are right it is a big B*gger of a door but it is cheaper than alton towers at only £4 entry but somehow i think the lack of fun is reflected in the price Smile [:)]

Thank you for you great review

Re: CHAT FOR THE WEEKEND COMPETITION 19th-20th JULY 2008

Steve12 - 'The Garage Door' …not much to say really Love this……My kind of shot, I really like this sort of stuff , old, musty and ageing, a sense of decay and neglect, but with texture and a hidden beauty for those that care to look closer.

Great effort in my book. There’s probably an old BSA Bantam hidden in there, or a Hillman Husky.

Cheers shelfy another great review this week, they really are compulsive reading I look forward to reading them every week

    Thanks again

    Steve...

Re: CHAT FOR THE WEEKEND COMPETITION 19th-20th JULY 2008

briyeo - 'The Stable Door'  Yo Ho Ho and a bottle of something resembling White Rum…any ways, that’s enough about my breakfast…what we have here, ladies and gentleman…is a door…but no ordinary door. This reminds me of a door and a composition I once saw at Exbury Gardens in Hampshire…wonderful gardens, designed by Capability Brown, featuring its own Steam Railway. Very popular during the summer months with elderly people which gives the air a faint aroma of stale urine.

Great composition…great textures…should have more votes. But hasn’t.

Ah…elderly people…they have all the answers…its just that no one asks them the questions anymore.

A review from Shelfy is worth the entry price alone,Big Smile [:D] thanks very much for taking the trouble. I will read through them all when I have more time.
