Well, here's mine. Horribly predictable really and it won't win, I took some firework shots as well but wasn't really happy with any of them.

Re: Weekend Competition 4th & 5th November - Best Photographer in the World

Bluecabbage: Totally agree... I was also shocked to see all the sparks bouncing off the other fireworks, as you say dead or not they're still dangerous.

Must say I'm impressed with the turn out and quality, I thought this was going to be a tough one.

Andy: When you stop using angry faces you might want to decide which photo you want to pick.

Oldboy: It's not so much concern as concentration.Big Smile [:D] Set up focus points, press ten second timer then rush to turn off light, sit down, find match in the dark, strike match, get a big flame, put cigar in mouth....suck, dead on 10 seconds for 1 second without moving. I'm suprised it's not up my nose and I'm lighting my finger.Smile [:)] Also I like your shot...that fire looks huge.

Georgeaye: Quite a neat effect and strange patterns...was it coursed more by being hand held than the fireworks though. Still like the effect.

Rob@dcmag  : lovely colours and really clear shot...would have liked to see a rebalenced crop it seems heavy to the left to me.

Aussie shawn: I agree with Oldboy.

Kevip6: Nice one...looks more like an Owls head to me...arty.

Sue: I didn't know swans exploded like that when lit.Big Smile [:D]

Blandford: Great shot, getting the flash to freeze him with good expression and still get the perfect movement in the sparkler. Stunner.

Richsarg: Good lighting, I'd maybe prefer it closer or a bit more colour. Not that we have much choice with these.

Orgie: Good shot again...If I was a git and picky I'd say the focus looks slightly behind the eyes though. Tough in low light though....ooh I'm a git.

    furney7: Colourful Bang...good impact.

Ste Jones: Like the spider and smoke. I can smell it from here.

    Steve12....Ahhh...Nice blue.

    Ian140 Great shot...really good movement.

Frosty: Good first shot here. Looks like ice or feathers...like it.

Filter: good for a camera phone.

Hevans; I was going to do something like this...Lovely colours...well caught. Hope you put your kitchen out in time.

Jack: Seems to have nice hot and cold colours...good and sharp.

Top totty: Great shot, Real warmth in it. I'd have liked to have seen the glowing wood in the middle in pin sharp focus. Still, toasty shot.

Paul: What is it, A glowing unlit candle? It's got a good sillouette arty look to it.

Nomadr: Interesting colours...but the patterns a bit sparse....still like it though.

Reddress:  Good idea on that autumn amber...I like the idea of soft fire,  angry fire is too much for me to look at.  I like your entry too.

Just to let you know that i totally agree what you have said but what you dont know nor can you see that all dead fireworks were dowsed down with copious amounts of water prior to anyone going near them as i am very safety contious being a Fireman on a chemical factory

Right,....You've still not picked which photo you want to go forward with though as far as I can tell.

I showed a friend of mine my photo and he replied :

It is generally NOT recommended to ignite a firework by drawing the flame through the explosive device using the "Dave (no lips) Bracher suction method". Big Smile [:D]

    Candle

I'm sorry mine came so late but it was taken during the weekend as the Exif can tell. Had decided to enter the competition no matter what so here it is. I am completely aware that this is not a great shot but it was the best i could arrange. Initially my idea was to take a picture of the smoke coming out of fireplaces but unfortunately the temperature ruined my plans.

furney7 - Great shot - lots of detail and action

ste Jones - Good shot - I like the fact you can see the green of the grass.

Steve 12 - I like the colours - better if sharper.

ian140 - Great frame filling shot - good detail.

frostyuk - Great detail shot - looks like a plant blowing in the wind.

filter99 - Sorry about your camera problems - Great picture with phone.

hevans - Good attempt but not in focus.

Jack2 - Great shot, well focused, Fantastic blue - let down by background.

Paul Da Silva - Good shot - fussy background detracts.

nomadr - Great shot - great colours - great focus.

Hayley Roberts - Great shot - clean background

rekitrallying - Great shot - Reddish sky adds to impact.

DaLuds - Good attempt but white background detracts too much.

spamalot - Great shot well focused.

aussie shaun - checked out re-edited photo - big improvement.

brunocoelho19 - Good attempt but focus not sharp.

Well done everyone - so many great photos - difficult to pick a winner.

    OldBoy:

hevans - Good attempt but not in focus.

Well, part of it is in focus with a very limited depth of field (f4.5) Smile [:)], I think the blur really comes from the slow shutter speed,  1/8s, and with a quite active dancing fire I think most is from motion blur - a sort of painting with fire, technique.

I tried faster shutter speeds, but then lost out on the amount of light (obviously Wink [;)]) and the photo was too dark. Tried with a higher ISO (400, 1600), but then lost out too much on the colour and the noise became untenable.

It was fun, and a real learning experience...
