It looks like an awkward subject - the tree coming out of the top just looks truncated and will lead to an awkward crop no matter what you try to do. It's the tangled roots that make the subject, perhaps just cropping to only include the roots as a texture based image? Or take a chainsaw next time?

Including the tree, though, I don't know what you can do about it, as it will probably look awkward no matter how you try to compose the shot.
I think I commented on this one in your gallery - superb shot, the only change might be to get a few more pixels on the right side to keep the bolt from going out of the frame. Or maybe if you were over further to the left to get the pilings to rake more across the photo and end up not in the centre of the frame? Probably only a step or two to the left would do it.
