I presume JR regarded it as the redline on a revcounter... It can indeed go faster, but it won't be doing the engine any good - the absolute maximum will be when the valves go bang

More than you needed to know.....

For somebody who is reasonably fit I have a relatively fast resting heart rate. It's been this way for years despite lots of regular exercise and different ways of checking it. That means just walking up to a machine can push me into the "fat burning zone".

I should probably check what my max heart rate is the way they recommend but using the guestimate I train at 85 - 90% of MHR. At the end of a workout I sometimes put in a burst to see how high I can push it (and more importantly how quickly I can recover). Yesterday I think I hit 185. I know that a few years ago a trainer glanced at my machine in a gym and became slightly alarmed that I was close to 200.....

I pushed my heart rate up to somewhere over 200 around new years, I ended up blacking out and flooring myself.

 

But then I'm not the fittest of people, I'm not unfit, my body just doesnt handle long periods of high strain excercise very well.

Never a man more deserving of the 'Sir' status. An icon of his era, and example of not only how the game should be played but also of the 'spirit' in which it should be played. It is quite sad really that the youngsters of today, and of the todays still to come, will most probably try to emulate the likes of Ronaldo and Co. instead of one of the true 'greats'. Having mentioned Ronaldo - well what can one say? Regrettably, his overall football skills are not matched by his personality and maturity skills. In his attempt to demonstrate to his millions of doting fans - look here I am, see how great I am - and in the process to try and humiliate his opponent he succeeded only in demonstrating what a 'Pratt' he really is and of humiliating himself more. Such a shame he hasn't taken a leaf out of Bobbies book but hopefully 'Sir' will perhaps give him a nice fatherly talking to when things return to normal.

Yes, in competitive sports there will always be winners and losers. However, in this case Chelsea gave of their best and took losing the match on the chin and so are also looked upon as winners in my book. I do wish Frau Ballack would refrain from bursting into tears every five minutes though. Of course it was a high tension game and a lot was at stake but believe me, when you've seen the like of Frau Ballack cry as often as I have (remember we've seen more of him over here) then it all wears a bit thin after a while.

 

Right - time to go. The postman interrupted this post to deliver my new 40D - time to go unpack it. Yippee.

What made me laugh today...?
1. Allegedly today was going to be a busy day, so I couldn't book a halfday holiday. I guess that explains why I was twiddling my thumbs for half the day.
2. Today's the best time for buying a Nikon. So next weekend, people can forget about buying cameras.

But hey, I got paid today... and am now officially on holiday. A week of not fixing tills! A week of not shouting, thanks to hearing "Sorry, I can't hear you". A week of burning film, and DSLR batteries.

and.. a week of meeeeee!

I officially got engaged today

Helen and I have been talking about tying the knot for a while now so while I am off work on holiday at the moment I popped into Inverness today and bought a ring.  It's nothing too flamboyant but she loves it and that's all that matters.

We've decided to get married at the local castle (Tulloch Castle) so are off to pay the deposit next week having been for a look around last week.  It's quite touching really as Helen chose that we do that as Tulloch Castle is my ancestral clan seat (I'm a Davidson).

So I'm just about to go and crack a bottle of champagne to celebrate, if you can, have one with me!!
