Re: ...this is what's wrong with this coutry.......

I used to be an air cadet (and, yes, I do have friends). Got to fly in Chippys and Buldogs and spent an amazing 2 weeks at Binbrook working with the Lightning test flight - got to sit in the cockpit of the 2seater during a ground engine run - brilliant.

Going back to the original sumbject, the problem schools have is that their punishment options are limited (I'm not necessarily talking about corporal punishment). For example my wife (as a teacher) has to give written notice and get the parent's approval for a detention!

This country has gone rapidly downhill since test cricket was taken off the telly, now we are forced to subscribe to sky,or watch sad highlights on channel 5.May god forgive the powers that be for their heinous sins, reducing a gentlemans game and cornerstone of society to a token slot, while loudly championing the mindless drivel of reality[not]television.Amen.Angry [:@]

I have come to the conclusion that there is only one thing wrong with this country: people.  Without people it would be a peaceful place to be.  Of course, when I say people, I mean those I don't like.  The rest can stay.Confused [8-)]Big Smile [:D]

Thanks for letting me stay, I assume! Wink [;)]

To be really truthful, most of the people in this country are great, it just the very small numbers of scum, around 50,000 or so, who cause all the problems. Years ago these problems were nipped in the bud, by the local copper giving them a clip around the earhole. The PC brigade have ruined the situation, so if a copper look at you twice you can have him charged with assult and infringement of their human rights!!!!!! Super Angry [8o|]

I will have to think about that OldBoy.  You are right, the majority are AOK.  I do think the young get a poor press at times.  There are a tremendous amount of young people doing great things these days, especially those who go abroad and put their lives at risk to help the disadvantaged.  In all I think there should be more people staying than leaving though.Big Smile [:D]Wink [;)]

I've been reading through this thread and it would seem it's the PC brigade that gets most of the blame for the state we're in. How often have you been sitting waiting while the missus goes shopping, next to a complete stranger, who starts up the conversation about how the country's going to the dogs. It happens to me nearly every time we go into Kingston.

    Are they all wrong?

Re: ...this is what's wrong with this coutry.......

This country has gone terribly wrong. Im 17, and because of my age i get criticized and told that i take drugs, shot people, and hang around on street courners...ect...ect...
When no, thats not true, im a student, work voluntary in a charity shop, never taken drugs and i couldnt think of anything worst than beating and shooting people. If i want a drink i will go to the pub on a friday night , but i would quite happily sit in with my cup of tea and watch big brother. ( though im no geek)

    Carrying on with my rage,
I was on the bus the other day in rush hour, i was sitting at the front of the bus, so i got up and offered an old lady my seat (because i beleive that is the right thing to do) but the lady turned round and told me off because apparently i was calling her an old bag and she cant stand up proply. That wasnt the case at all.

If the media focused on all the good young and the good things which happened in our counry, i think things will change, because more people would want to get noticed and reconised for there good deeds. I think that constandly showing that "all" teenagers beat up good honest fathers and hero's, is telling them the only way to get noticed is to do that.

30 years ago we didnt have this problem, i wasnt alive then, but i say we should go back to then.

One more thing, The otherday another shooting happened in london to that poor young girl, sadly i wasnt surprised, but isnt that really wrong that i thought that?!

sorry, i do have lots more to say but i will stop now, just had to let my opinion out. Smile [:)]

    Flash away.

Its an unfortunate reflection of the reactionary right wing establishment. They did the same with feminism, they somehow manage to convince the beneficiaries of a movement that is advocating for their rights that the movement is against their interests.

Don't worry about it. It's just a generation thing. When I was a young lad in the 1960's, the older generation at the time decried the younger generation as a load of long-haired layabouts who would just waste their lives. Ninty-nine percent of today's young people are caring people, who will grow-up to become useful members of society, that their parents will be proud of. The problem is that only bad news makes the front page, not the good, caring deeds that most of today's young people do. Big Smile [:D]

I totally agree that the best way to rubbish something is to ridicule or make us laugh at it - thus they pick up on something like a council declaring 'winterval' instead of christmas. However, something has gone wrong. The parameters of what's acceptable have radically changed. Society in some parts has become increasingly angry - the appalling case of the man murdered in the checkout queue recently and all those cases of road rage where drivers seem to respond with a totally out of proportion response to some minor infringement. Gaining more 'rights' does'nt seem to make us happier. It's the perception that those who misbehave get away with it whilst those who suffer at their hands just have to suffer. Kids make some householders life a misery, they complain, they have evidence, but are told they can't prove it. Said householder shouts at kids - kids complain to parents about it - police arrive to arrest householder. That's the perception - the silent majority don't know the law like some of those who've been in trouble all their lives. I've had first hand experience of that with a couple of friends.

The overall perception is that 'human rights' is used to protect and compensate the wrongdoer and those who, on the whole, lead a law abiding life just have to get on with it and suffer in silence.

National Service as a military thing - no. National Service as a way to get kids off the street, out of gangs, learning a useful trade, helping the community etc. - surely got to be a good idea - why could'nt it be run by ex forces personnel.

Which unfortunately implies that the remaining 1%, or approximately 120,000 under 16's will grow up to be ........................let's just say, less than useful. Wink [;)]
