    Everest:

    Hello all,

Just adding one of mine to the mix. Just started modifying some of my images and looking for unbiased opinions. Thanks in advance

Unbiased opinions? It's not like we have sides to be biased towards. I like this shot. The really calm lake and blurry smoky effect really draws me in. It makes me feel like I'm being drawn down the walk way, whether I want to or not. From a photographic sense I'd say check your horizon. It seems to be down on the right. I can see you've leveled it from the boards at the bottom but for a photo with so few elements in it it would help to set the horizon too. This can be done useing distort (one method) in PS so both are in line.

    Re: Post your best here...

Thanks for the advise David, I'll try that. I say unbiased because the only people I've has seen my work has been close friends and family so far. I'd love some comments on my gallery if you have the time...

    Hey David,

Is tht the distort under the filters menu(cs2)? and if so what filter nder distort would you use to corect the horizon?

    Re: Post your best here...

This is great some great photos coming in and equally important some great comments too.

Eye i dont seem to beable to find a link to your gallery or am i being an idiot. If there is a way apart form looking throught DCM gallery for you gallery then i think you need to make it available.

David of course i dont mind a comment like the one you gave me. Thats the whole point of this thread. If you want to post on this thread you have got to be prepared to take the comment as long as its a constructive one. And now the you told me that, i agree with you, i does lack a point of interest. When i took the shot i was going for the patern but you are right it does lack that point that draws you to it.

Your photo is nicely taken, great mood. Dont think ther is much you can do to improve that shot.

    Cheers

    Re: Post your best here...

Everest, I've had a quick look...and left a comment (maybe you could do the same for me) I'll have a closer look later.

Everest: No not the distort under filters. Make your photo a layer (double click on it in the layers tab)..then go to Edit...then Transform...then distort. Then after putting in some guides raise the right hand corner a bit. This shouldn't alter the bottom much...but if it does just pull that down a tad. Good luck.

This thread seems to be working quite well for comments. Thankyou to everybody who's made them.

Thought I'd quickly go through the ones so far that seem to have little or no comments. This I'm sure is only due to people feeling safer to just comment on their one favorite. There's not been a bad photo yet. It seems a constructive or maybe negative comment is more welcome than nothing . So here goes...gulp!! Remember...I'm no expert.

Guesty1000: Good clear focus, would really like it if you cropped close in. The post unbalances shot.

Girello: I like a lot of your shots...This one has great movement (not that you need to be told)Big Smile [:D] personally I find the dark line across the top distracting and it slows down the movement... without it you're eyes are really drawn to the ducks.

Jack2: As with all the shots here another good one. Like the strong blue background too....different from the usual.

Khamelion: Cracker...look forward to seeing your moon version.

Eye: See you're not the only one...it happens to us all. Good to see something different. Reminded me of 'The Fly' film from the 50's. Smart!

Moira Riddell: Bet that was a hard shot to get, Well done. Maybe because you may have cropped in from a bigger picture the detail seems a bit lacking. Or the little begger was moving to fast to freeze the info I'd have liked to have seen it clearer. Still good capture.

Harry Shepherd: Lovely shot, Great design and positioning...I'll have to have a look at your gallery.

Misty: Is it getting hot in here or is it just me. Graphically I'd level up the photo so the black tiling was level. They do seem to be falling to the right. I prefer 'KJ' in your gallery. That really blew my socks off.

Gil Ritchie: I'm not a flower addicted expert....don't even have a macro lens (yet). Yes your dreamy effect works well. The only problem I'd say is when blurring around the outside like that it really draws your eyes to concentrate on the middle. It say's 'hey look at this!!!' So ideally you should have your best, prettiest crocus there. You're central one seems a bit closed and buried amongst the others.

Angel fire: EEEK Well done, I wouldn't want to get this close to a spider full stop. What is it climbing on?

Lee Lee: Odd way to ask people to look at a shot. Couldn't you post it here?. I've had a look at your Gallery...I like the 'Eagle guarding it's kill' shot better.

David Constable: Someone may have beaten you to the bridge shot...but yours is much better. No distracting lights.

    Great photos keep them coming.

    Re: Post your best here...

David now thats a reply. i think that you are right that there has not been a bad picture being posted so far. Because i think you can tell generally if your own picture is not that good, i.e. overexposed or under, uninteresting subject or not making the most of a subject. The tricky things is to beable to see what is wrong with the photo that you think is good.

5 times out of ten this site will act like more of inspiration whilst the rest of the time you will be getting constructive comment from people with the same interest as yourself.

I hope that people who do not get a reply do not take it the wrong way its just sometimes things get missed and all you have to do is either re-post it or post a new one.

    Cheers

    Re: Post your best here...

Thank you David for your comments on my picture, you asked was it a hard shot to get, well yes, because I had to do a quick change of memory cards (doesn't that always happen at times like this?)  It was just luck that the little girl came into the picture just at the right moment.

I am going to post another picture, any comments from you and others are welcome.

Can anyone explain to me why this photo has come out like a postage stamp?  It didn't happen with the previous photo.

    Re: Post your best here...

Hi Moira, prob just a re-sizing error...your pic is only 58 pixels wide, did you intend it to be 580?

as a general rule I always use a width of 400, which seems to fit, wherever I post.

    Re: Post your best here...

Moira, open up in you're gallery the picture you want. Right click...select copy and paste it into your reply. Basically make sure you're copying your biggest version. If we click on the photo now it takes us to a bigger version.

As for the photo is nice to see a black one for a change though he does look a little ungainly, but the person to ask about swan photos would probably be Sue Allen.

OK ...this is the kind of effect that I was trying to get with my earlier pic - thanks to DaisyMaeTulip for the advice. Not sure if I have got it "right" bu have had fun with Elements and learned about layers and filters!!! The idea was o convery the effect of the old bus coming back into the modern world...

I had a crack at this one as well. The desired effects just didn't look right. But I'm giving it some more work. Smile [:)]
