Walking along theriverside path, passing a couple with young child in tow, seeing the mother bend down to pick something up and realising she had an armful of daffodils picked from the beds carefully planted by the council to brighten the area [takes a lot to do that!]....probably a 'cultural' thing.......

Not being able to get my hands on my 70-300mm lens until I return from a day out tomorrow, stupid postman had to turn up when I was out!!

Know how you feel! The last couple of deliveries form Royal mail I was in waiting for them to call. No bell sounded but later I found a card saying he had called, and after failing to get a answer, returned the item to the main office from where I could collect it.

Here's a tip from my postie... If you're expecting a Royal Mail Special Delivery, give your local sorting office a ring first thing in the morning to find out if it's already out on the van for delivery. Chances are that unless it's a guaranteed 9am package, it won't be. Around here, the posties have to finish their normal rounds and then head back to the sorting office to pick up the Special Delivery stuff and get it out. A quick scout around Google should find the number for your local office.

I know it means a drive/walk down to get your package but it beats the hell out of waiting indoors for it... It worked for me last week!

My own gripe now... I've been off work for the past 10 days with a broken toe - it was the dog's fault but that's another story! Anyway, for the past few days it's felt strong enough to walk on without causing any major discomfort (and I have a low tolerance for pain despite being married for 16 years ).

I went to see my lovely doc this morning after having a pleasant natter on the phone with my boss to tell him I'd definitely be back on Monday only to be told by my GP that there's no way in Hell I'm going back to a job that involves walking 3-5 miles a day for at least the next fortnight!

My boss says he'd love to have me back (for obvious reasons) but won't go against the GP's advice (and the sick-note she issued that I was gonna throw in the bin). So I told my boss that since I want to come back to work but can't, I'm going to make the most of the next couple of weeks and get out with the camera. He even turned around and told me he'd do the same thing given the circumstances! Bless him!

So now my 40D and the two, fast f2.8 Sigma lenses I bought last week are going to get some serious pounding.

Swings and roundabouts eh?

Yup...I'm still working out just how this has annoyed you !!! I'd love a chance to get out for a couple of weeks, but nope...I suffer hideously from good health.

On a similar note, we went to see the surgeon Wednesday about the wife's recovery and going back to work. He told her that she shouldn't go back for another 6 weeks - she'd prefer it to be 4, but hey....

I'll just be glad when life settles back down to the previously constant steady roar.

Hi Hugh,

I actually like my job and I have a good boss which is why I want to get back to work... It's annoying me 'cos it's only my flippin' toe but the doc wants me off so I don't aggravate the injury.

As well as my wonderfully placid Golden Retriever, I also have a slightly demented German Shepherd who doesn't like the postman... Every morning she sits and listens for the front gate to open and then charges through the living room to bark at the window. On this occasion, she knocked one of our armchairs out of place as she ran through so I went to go and put it back. My dog then decided to run back the other way but instead of running behind me, she ran straight through the middle of me, knocked the armchair out of my hands and down onto my big toe... It's not the lightest of chairs either!

Best follow the doc's advice. My boss is like you and refused to take the time off when he injured his foot. I think it was around Christmas. He went back to the doc last week as it still hasn't healed and was promptly order off his feet for a couple of weeks as the doc says the reason it isn't healed is cuz he didn't rest it when he should. You can tell by the way he hobles around he's in real pain.
