Re: What annoyed you today?
Had a quick work trip to Gibraltar las week and thought I'd pack the camera, just in case.
Came back with 60 odd pictures - all with so much crud on the sensor, you wouldn't believe it...

Re: What annoyed you today?
I suddenly realised that you can no longer buy a pork chop with a kidney in it,thanks to the interference of the sad sacks in Europe-what a petty, nit picking apathetic country we live in!
[Don't take any notice,i've forgotten to take my medication.....]

Re: What annoyed you today?
I'll tell you what annoyed me today, I was down in Edinburgh and the weather was good for taking photos so I decided to concentrate on the castle. My camera decided that no matter what settings I decided to use it would use a shutter speed of 1/4sec. Shutter priority, aperture, manual, programe all the same,What's that all about? Couldn't work it out. I took the camera to a shop to ask them to look at it incase I was missing something, but no. The only way to sort it was to use the reset button on the bottom of the body, anyone had this problem before, with a Nikon D80?

Re: What annoyed you today?
Get yourself a nice cheap compact and shoot it on auto, all your problems will be solved-tell a lie,I ,had a similar problem with a Nikon compact,a system reset solved the problem.Might need a firmware update off the net?

Re: What annoyed you today?
You're right, it may be a firmware update that I need. I have concerns about that though, I posted a question about on another string (link below) which no one has answered yet. Once I know there are no other issues with it I will probably do that.
I put the question about D 80 here http://community.dcmag.co.uk/forums/thread/728935.aspx
thanks for your response.

In answer to your question this from Nikon's website may help. ![Big Smile [:D]](/emoticons/emotion-2.gif)
The following improvements have been made in version 1.10. - The D80 is “Certified for Windows Vista" - Support for the new USB Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) has beenadded. The PTP option in the setup menu's USB item will be modified to MTP/PTP. The icon will also be modified. - The effects of noise reduction processing performed at shutter speeds of 1 - 8 s with shutter speed set to “bulb”, when On is selected for Long exp. NR in the shooting menu, have been improved.

Re: What annoyed you today?
Thanks OldBoy,
I saw that when I downloaded the update, I don't use windows vista (at the moment) so that part is no use to me yet. The rest of it is of use I know. It's strange though that the camera, for no apparent reason, would suddenly stop working properly.
My other concern I had with updating firmware in the camera is, what if it goes really badly wrong when I do that? can I go backwards and restore what I had before? can I break the thing altogether? I know these are maybe silly concerns but I've had problems with things before and I don't want to ruin what essentially is a really good (and really expensive) bit of kit. I just posted that on the other string to get a bit of reassurance.

Once you update the software you can't revert back to the old software, as there is no way to back it up. Why the camera makers don't post the old version with the new I can't answer. Had the same problem last week when an update for the D3 firmware caused problems so was withdrawn. Anyone who had used it would now have problems with some options. Did Nikon put the previous version on their website so people could correct, no they didn't. As this is a PRO camera I don't think it's the right way to treat customers. I think this is the same for all updates from camera makers. At least with Microsoft you can restore the previous system. ![Sad [:(]](/emoticons/emotion-6.gif)

Question - Were you using flash? Cause you flash sync speed could be set to 1/4th of a second... What annoyed me? Taking pain killers last night for my sodding wisdom tooth, which is still bein' a git, and them making me sleep most of the day today. And my knee hurts for some reason... Must have been a footballer in a dream last night...
