The people that slander the selection are essentially morons. I dont know who did, or what was said, I may even get along with the person, but the fact of the matter is it aint needed. People are just pissed off that its not the same old faces week after week gettin' whored on the front page (not that I mind being on there), and you, JD, are looking for individuals and individual photos. I think some people want the POTD to stay within the collective of us that chat between each other, not to new people that have all of a sudden popped up, or posted one great, deserving shot. But hey, thats what I think anyways. Feel free to bombard me with hate.

I've been posting on the Forums for just a year now, and if there is one topic that has been raised time after time it's the POTD. It wasn't until I saw it on the Forum that I realised there was such a thing.
Can't think what all the aggravation is about. One person has been appointed as the arbiter of what's deemed the POTD and although you may not agree with his choices he attempts to justify them with a comment.
If you are bursting to have your picture on there look at JD's past choices and you will form an opinion of what catches his eye, then post a picture in a similar vein. That's an old camera club angle, experienced members see who is judging the monthly competiton, know his/her photographic predelictions and enter a picture accordingly.
Or you can keep posting your own pictures and get on with life.

While I appreciate your support, Abers, I'd just like to point out that I have no favourite style - I'm not even a particular style of photographer myself - and we've had every type of image for POTD over the last month. I like technical excellence, but at the same time I like lumo-style artistic snapshots. I like deep, saturated colours, but I also like black and white. I like photographs of people, places, objects, abstract shapes - there's no wrong or right, just what jumps out of a page of 20 shots. Thumbnails are more telling than you might think about a full-size image.

I see a challenge there.. Thumbnail trickery, perhaps?
I for one appreciate your efforts with the POTD James. It's great that someone is picking these manually and taking the time to add comments/critique on the shot. I even feel comfortable challenging your comments and offering more critique on the photo from my own humble point of view. Hopefully this will help us all get away from the 'nice shot, but..' syndrome, which I know irks some people.
Keep up the good work - Jason.

ABERS:Who's the new bloke?
Ant'll be introducing himself when he has a minute :) He's spent the last few months relaunching the T3.co.uk website, and has now moved over to be the Editor of the Digital Camera site. As I've said before, we're moving towards a dedicated online team for this site, as the magazine team is simply too busy to keep this place ticking over. This week I've been at Focus so Ant has taken over POTD, but from next week on we'll be choosing and commenting on shots together. Hopefully, having two people on the case will mean that the POTD will change every single day - but I'm not making any promises just yet ;)

"Lumo-style"? I'm confused.
If that's "lomo-style", JD... don't get me started about the lomo and its rise to "fame", courtesy of a bunch of art students going all "hi-art" thanks to the "Lomo LC" lens 'features', thus creating a media fascination resulting in the art students creating the "lomographic society", buying the rights to this "society", and gaining the ability to sell lomo cameras for 5 times (at least) their original UK retail prices. The "society" founders also seriously dislike 3rd-party sellers of the Lomo LCA cameras, thus big profits ending up in their coffers (original LCA cameras were unable to be sold for £20, back in the '80's. Now...?). See also this, and this.
... did I miss something in that lot?

Having just had a couple of "Tradesmen" in doing a three day insurance job on the kitchen floor which lasted three weeks, your statement above has a certain resonance.
I'm sure we're all looking forward to the Ant & DeV show.

I'm with the 'don't know what all the fuss is about' brigade. I've only been on the site for a couple of months or so and my impression is that the POTDs are pretty eclectic. I don't find all of them appealing, but I understand why they've been chosen. We can't all like the same thing; if we did the world would be a very dreary place indeed.
And I always try to check out the galleries of the photographers concerned where I have found all manner of treasures.
In short, I'm with JD on this.
