I know and with XP and Vista Microsoft hide Dos now, so they aren't going to learn either. Sad [:(]

Those of us who learned our trade using Command Line interpreters, can reap the rewards now. Big Smile [:D]

Some of us also learned DOS without having to go running to "google" (heh, even Alta Vista wasn't around in those days).

Some of us didn't even have a DOS manual.

No, didn't need a manual, as the help command was very good in Dos 6.

Telnet, hypertrm, ping, tracert... all good fun... especially when tracert shows a ping going round and round in Tiscali, and Tiscali say "Nothing to do with us". Smile [:)]

The system registry is the worst idea M$ have come up with in years. Or... it's the easiest bit of the operating system to mess up. An entire operating system being dependant on a single file that, by default, is accessible to any user...? Smart thinking.

I actually wrote a trojan years ago, in Pascal and assembler. It was targetted at one guys PC, and was created to encrypt (128-bit) his system registry using the PCs time and date as the key. If (and only if) he tried to reverse-engineer it (run it through a disassembler), the thing would lock the PC up... once he'd gotten past the trojans compression. See, he thought the world of his PC, and his installation of Windows... I didn't particularly like the way he treated his "other half", and the fact that he laid claim to a chunk of software I'd written.

Suffice to say, DMTs PC is behaving... to a point. I guess Windows XP tends to decide settings for itself occasionally. Indifferent [:|]

    Heh... DOS 6?

So, when are you going to get DMT under control and behaving?? Wink [;)]

Agree with the comments on the registry, I'm inclinded to believe it is based quite heavily on witchcraft and is full of hexes (0x43, 0x72, 0x61, 0x70).

How many of us have used telnet to send email via a sendmail server? Or read their email via POP? I have, and it killed a couple of otherwise fruitless hours.

Nothing, which is more than can be said for Dos 4 and more so for Dos 5. Big Smile [:D]

    Re: What annoyed you today?

The council destroyed much of the ambience of our local park when they cut down around 90 mature horsechestnuts because a few were diseased. There is still, however a lovely clump of around 20 silver birches which are very beautiful at this time of year. Last night some sweet "£$^£&!! pushed two full wheelie bins into the centre of these trees and set fire to them - around half a dozen have totally blackened trunks and one is half burnt through and will certainly have to come down i'm sure. So you see something beautiful and feel the need to destroy it.......there are some sad people in this world.

Today is my only day off this week.

And now its not. Because of a coworker called in sick so I'm needed to replace him.

Grrr councils ... haven't got a clue. They employ tree surgeons who of course want to cut down as many trees as possible because they get paid for it and they get some sick satisfaction from it!

    Re: What annoyed you today?

    LEE Filters -
For their crap website, which is along the lines of "we're the best, here's our stuff, oh look, alot of photos by Joe Cornish!"

Theres no technical details to be seen.

So imagine my suprise when I got my 105mm polariser attachment ring today, and I fitted it all up.
Bolted on my brand spanking new Heliopan 105mm CPL, and it vignets with 2 filter slots and the ring.
And it still vignets with just one slot and the ring.
Granted, it is 10mm [15mm 35mm equiv], but even still.
Its fine at 12mm, but its a 10-20mm lens. If I'd known this before, I would have got the Nikkor 12-24mm.

Now I have to buy another foundation kit, for £50, so I can have that set up to use 2 filters, while the one I have, which I thought would be enough, will be set up for 1 filter and the CPL.

Also, £30 for a machined aluminium ring, shorter then a pencil case ruler? F***off.

    Also, Jessops -
Dont they keep anything in stock?
I rang about the foundation kit.
They were just "no... we dont have thems..."
My local Jessops only seems to stock digital photo frames and rediculously expensive knock off batteries.
They dont even have the prices up in store ffs.

    /rant...for now....
