Great shot Hevans!! It had me wondering for a moment...feathers? ice? windscreen...great. If you want to work on it more all I'd do is use the dodge and burn brushes. Probably just the dodge brush set to Midtones with a soft exposure of about 10. Also using a very soft brush. Just to bring out the detail more on the left hand side.

    Re: Photo of the Day

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll have a play with it a bit more, see if I can bring out some more detail.

One thing I didn't mention, it was shot from the inside of the car, looking out. The darkness on the right is the neighbour's house occluding the sky, and the dimmer patch on the left is our house. A more consistent lighting would have been better. I also wish I had a macro lens...to get a close up of the swirl on the left.

Brilliant shot and you should be able to make it look just like you had your house lights on too with the dodge tool.Big Smile [:D] I'll have to give this a do next time it freezes....If I can get into my car that is.

Gorgeous colours, separates nicely from the background! I'd have focussed on the yellow, or used a higher DOF (it looks like you had the light, 1/800s, but I don't know how well your lens responds to DOF wrt f-stop).

This one, though, I really really like: http://community.dcmag.co.uk/photos/hansy84s_gallery/picture231454.aspx

    I'm only jealous because I don't have a macro lens! Sad [:(]

    Hi there.

Thanks for the comment. Does DOF mean Depth of Field? I'm not totally sure what you mean with the wrt f-stop thing!!

I don't have a macro lens either. Think I was using an 18-55 at the time, got really close and manually focussed.

Thanks for likign the other one too !

I really like the composition of this pic. And it looks quite old fashioned too - what did you do it in photoshop?

Photoshop??? That's natural lighting! Handheld... no flash... as it should be. Smile [:)]

I'm not a windows user, so I don't use photoshop. Gimp is what I use, and I'm quite capable with that. Smile [:)]
That photo was a case of "compose, fire, tweak levels, crop, resize, sharpen, border".

So, at what point did you shave? Before or after?

Do you still use the razor? I haven't seen one of those razor sharpeners in half a lifetime (which for me is not inconsiderable).

    Beautiful balance to that photo.
