    Re: Weekend comp rejected shots

After going out to scout the neighbourhood for "water" shots, I came back home and tried the "Lurkalot" technique...

Given some of the outstanding entries from the competition, this one pales by comparison.

Good idea for the thread - Shaun, I think you made the right decision - really like the web.

Here is my second choice - others are on my gallery; please let me know what you think.

Look bloomin good to me H.   I see you got the same trails as me too.  Try giving it the blue, or purple tint treatment, can make them look cool.

    Re: Weekend comp rejected shots

I think the trails are just the image of the drop as it slides further down....should try it with a rear curtain flash, see if the trails go into the drop from above.

I'll have a play with the tinting, though, sounds like fun (or as much fun as one can legally admit to on a public forum)Surprise [:O]

This is one that I did last year using rear curtain sync.

    Re: Weekend comp rejected shots

If you're talking about taking water shots, then rear-curtain sink is the backdrop that gets wet. Smile [:)] Sorry, couldn't resist that one...

Seriously, though, the flash, which lasts considerably less than 1/1000 s, can either fire at the beginning of the exposure or the end. If it's at the end, then it fires just before the shutter closes. I believe the standard default is for it to fire when the shutter opens.

What I want to know, though, is how do you synchronise triggering the shutter to get the crown? You'd have to release the shutter at pretty much exactly the right moment. Is there a reasonable technique, or do we just make a lot of attempts, relying on at least one of them hitting the sweetspot?
