Hi Simon.
Welcome to the forum, not been around long myself,
either.
Lighthouse shot. I really like, though agree background and distant rocks
are underexposed and let it down. Though looks like there are local areas that
have been lightened. If the darker areas were bought up to the same level then
would be much nicer. Also, I associate lighthouse's paintwork with being almost
brilliant white. If you then put some drama in the clouds to contrast with the
almost pure white lighthouse - well, I'd like it :-). Cropping out the tips of
the rocks at the bottom might be more pleasing. A nice image and scene that I'd
like to have taken and work from :-)
The
church: this shot doesn't work for me, just a personal thing with the subject
and me, not your image. The only church shots I like are when they're B&W,
dark, imposing and real eerie.
The tree
and the lock: I like, though would have preferred more contrast and drama in the
clouds as opposed to the vignette - both, I think, won't work. And less
foreground heather and more loch instead. Personally I think the desaturation is
fine, just my opinion, and think it would work nice with the suggested darkened
clouds. Again, a nice image that I'd be pleased to work from and the sort of
scenes that I connect with :-).
Cheers,
Neil
