Jonathan Ryan:WMMFGT? Chilling on a beach with some very cool clients and their dog. Oh and getting to call it "work".
Story. Some days I like this job more than working in an office

. And some days I like it a LOT more

That looks like fun Jonathan, how did you process that photo?
What - tell you
all my secrets....?
The most important thing is the capture - I was shooting from fairly close with an SB800 firing full power. On earlier shots I had 3 SB800s firing at pretty much full power (yes I know what the books say...) to take some of the edge off the sun.
That gave me a shot not a million miles away from the end product - you really have to nuke the flash to get any kind of detail in the non sun side.
Into Photomatix to create a pseudo HDR with a fairly subtle touch to bring up the shadow side. Layer this with a raw processed for the sky and mask to remove most of the halos.
Then turn up the colours beyond all reason, clean up the dust and you're done.
Took somewhere between 5 and 10 mins. The key thing (for me) is that this is the shot I visualised when I pressed the button. Or rather just before when I set it up. I shot it to give this result.
Oh and being on the beach really really early helped too.
Kidography. It's like photography. But more fun.
