that safety remove hard drive thingy

Ahh.....so we are talking birth control then??

    Re: What annoyed you today?

It's really trivial, but it p*ssed me off.

One of the castors on my office chair broke. It's just out of warranty.

And our fridge was on Watchdog this week for having a serious design fault they would now guarantee for five years, and ours is five years and one month old.

Saw all the tax talk earlier. The only tax cheat, imho, is the governement, for creating a system so mind bogglingly complex you need lawyers to sort it out. When I lived in the yUK and worked as a semi-pro musician in addition to my PAYEd job I had a tax return 48 pages long. Here in France it's 4 pages. And they say the French love paperwork . . .

Let's here it for flat tax; it works.

    Tringle, I hear ya.

    Left UK in October.

filled in all the forms. earned nothing since I left, claimed nothing since I left. been given nothing since I left. giv em' my p60 for last year when they asked,

even got a letter from the tax bods saying my OAP pension wouldn't be paid when I reach that age...as I hadn;t paid contributions for the last 10 years (I'm 46 and I've been PAYE working for NHS for last 20 odd years.)

and where was the tax office letter posted from....Sweden.

and yup. yesterday  I got the umpteen page self assessment form to fill in....again.

    sheesh

    AAAAAAAAARGH

OK. I admit, I did try to sign on here in Ireland to maybe get a bit back from all my UK contributions....they told me that I cant claim unemployment benefit until I get a job...yup, true, thats what they said. cracked me up.

Not sure I follow that Shelfy. I retired at the age of 50 (9 and a bit years ago now) and was advised by my accountant not to pay any voluntary contributions because what I would be paying over the following 15 years (up to the age of 65) would be way more than I would ever get back. So in short, I started paying contributions at the statutory age of 18 and stopped paying anything whatsoever at aged 50. In the last 9 years I have twice contacted the pensions office and requested a pensions forecast which they have supplied promptly as requested and the forecast lists quite clearly what State Pension I will receive upon reaching 65 and what I would have got had I continued making contributions.

Edit: The Centre for Non-Residents also issue a standard letter advising persons living outside of the UK to contact them Tel: 44 (0) 191 2182828 if they have not received a Retirement Pension Claim Pack within 3 months of pension age. They include this letter along with the Pension Forecast.

    Re: What annoyed you today?

it was the annoyance of them telling me that I  had paid no Nat insurance contributions for ten years...when in fact all my contributions at that time were fully up to date and paid at source by NHS wages department.

so how they figured I'd not paid, or were the records went I can only guess at.

Sorry Shelfy, still not following you. Even if you had NOT paid all your NI contributions you would still receive a pension based on the contributions you HAD made. Your first post indicated that the Pensions Office wouldn't be paying you ANYTHING at age 65 and that cannot be possible.

They have changed NI rules and pension entitlement now whereby you only have to have contributed 30 years to get a full pension. FT education between 16-18 counts as 2 and then from working career. I took voluntary early retirement recently and was advised to call 0845 3000168 and get a pension forecast from DWP. I was impressed they could advise me within a minute - will only give it verbally if retirement age reached after 6/04/2010. Evidently the new changes mean a lot of people who paid voluntary contributions have wasted money - only need 30 years in to get maximum rate. You might find it useful to just ask for a figure without explaining what has\happened so far then ask what the hell is going on when you get the answer if it does not tally.

There`s always sheep rustling if you need to supplement your pension!Smile [:)]

    Jinky

Pity this post is in the 'what annoyed you today' thread because you've just made mine - yippee. Although my accountant wasn't to know it at the time (re the not bothering to pay voluntary contributions etc) it sounds like she's save me a bomb over the years. The wife is putting the mint sauce back in the fridge as I type and as soon as it's posted blah blah black sheep is going back outside.
