    Re: Olympus Users

No need to apologise for being a Nikon user - I used to be one too....I even used Canon.....before I saw the lightWink [;)]Geeked [8-|]

Not all magazines are the same - Photography Monthly gave the Olympus 55-200mm 85/100 in a group test of telephoto zooms - Canon 100-400 f4 IS L got 83/100 as did the Nikkor 80-400VR.

In another test of budget zooms the old 40-150mm got 80/100 compared with the Canon 50-200mm USM 64/100 and the Nikon 50-200mmDX 68/100.

    Nothing wrong with Zuiko glass!

    Re: Olympus Users

Photography monthly just did a head to head of the Canon 400D . Nikon D40X & E410

Now the 400D was slighted because of a lack of spot metering  but was on a par with the E410 . E410 ahead on white balance nothing in the noise stakes and to quote "in resolution the Nikon just pips it with the E410 as good as the Canon".

So which one won..the Canon by a whisker..go figure!

Then it dawned on me when you see these guys taking pics in the magazine what is there own camera..yep familiarity will always give a biased edge to a review.Wink [;)]

Hi all, been an oly e500 user for over a year now , very pleased indeed with it, ease of use and good results, bought a sigma 55-200 lens to go with it, very happy also with those results too, waiting on the new e1 coming out before i change, was thinking of changing to nikon d80, but have decided to remain loyal to olympus and see what the e1 brings, already have the lenses to suit anyway, im sure the cost of lenses will reduce for them as time goes on, (hope so). Donny - I can't find this lens on the Sigma web site. Is it a 4/3 lens you are using?

    Presume Donny means this one?

http://www.four-thirds.org/en/products/telephoto.html#05 (you might have to scroll down).

Unfortunately, Oly lenses tend to remain pretty stable in price unless they're about to be replaced when some discounts can be found. Lenses tend to be longer term investment products, the bodies are usually much shorter term.

    Re: Olympus Users

In DigitalCamera Mag this month (as i'm sure you are aware) they reviewed the E-510 which was of particlar interest to me sinse i'm seriously considering getting one. Somthing in the review struck me as odd though. The Review gave the camera 90% and said "The E-510 won't oust Canon and Nikon from the top slots, but it is a return to form for Oympus". However, in "the rivals" section the nikon D40x got 76% and the Canon eos 400D got 85%. so why won't the Olympus get the top slot? surly by reviewing it higher and saying that they are contradicting themselves? or am i just confused(which happens alot btw)

    Re: Olympus Users

If they're on about sales they're just reflecting reality. Already having the majority of the market share is largely self perpetuating as people buying for the first time look to see which sells best...

Also, Olympus are smaller so don't have as much manufacturing capacity I presume so there are fewer cameras to buy.

    Re: Olympus Users

I would put the E-510 more on a par with the D80 than the D40X - E-410/E-400 are more the D40X rivals I would have thought.

Is the idea of posting a shot that you are pleased with not a good idea? Anyway, here goes:

Nice one Sue. I wanted to see it whole as it is too big for this screen, but I can't find your gallery. Do you not have one?

Still got a gallery of sorts on worldphotographyforum - http://www.worldphotographyforum.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=20565&cat=500&ppuser=144  - should be able to see it, and a few other Olympus shots, there.
