I was beginning to sense some good intentions on the part of the magazine... First with JD's 'promotion' and potential input to the site and also for actually managing to have two decent POTD's from ABERS and from Zuzana D. Both of whom are regulars on this forum and whose inclusion into the POTD 'hall of fame' is warranted.

However, things do not really appear to have improved. I used to look (wishfully) at the homepage in the hope that maybe one of mine had been good enough to be selected or at the very least, that the shot was from someone I've come to know on here although that happens so infrequently as to essentially stick two fingers up to those of us who do make the effort to keep this place alive. Shoving pictures up from people who might have one shot in their gallery posted when God was a child really doesn't do much to enamour the 'powers-that-be' to the rest of us!

So come on... Learn how to use the 'RECENTLY CHANGED' button on the gallery homepage and pick images from those who CONTRIBUTE to this place... In other words; we'll help to keep this place vibrant and useful and you'll recognise this by rewarding those who have made the effort.

Sounds good to me.   Not sure what plans JD has for the future, but I'm sure he has some up his sleeve.

Going back to picking the POTD.   You know it's a hell of a job when you have 32,439 galleries to trawl though, and in those galleries there's 184,561 photos, and 168,815 comments.  And with the site as slow as it is, try browsing through that lot. lol..

Glad I don't have to do it.

Somebody [not me] needs to write a preloader for the site.
It'll run so much better.

The site isnt THAT complex. The only difficulty is all the galleries, which have seperate folders and such.
A preloader would sort it all out.

I didn't choose Zuzana, ABERS or anyone else because they are regulars who keep this place alive or because their fame was 'warranted', I chose them because the single particular photo they had recently uploaded was a great image. And I'm just as likely to pick a photo by someone with one shot in his or her gallery than I am a photo by someone who's uploaded 10,000 photos over the last 3 years. For your "inclusion in the hall of fame to be warranted", take a good photograph.

It's a level playing field. And contrary to what you might think, this makes it entirely fair.

Despite what's happened previously, only images less than two weeks old will be chosen - I start from page one of Recently Changed and move backwards, looking for shots that blow me away.

My sincere apologies for today's non-update; I am trying my best to keep things daily but was in London all day today. Please don't worry that you might have 'missed out' if you upload on a day I don't get the time to update - as I said, I look over all shots from the last two weeks before I make a decision.

Matt, I Know nothing about websites, as you've probably guessed.    But doesn't a preloader hold back the page until everything has loaded, then display the page?  Wouldn't this make matters worse?

Matt, I Know nothing about websites, as you've probably guessed.    But doesn't a preloader hold back the page until everything has loaded, then display the page?  Wouldn't this make matters worse?

thats pretty much the gist of it.
But you can set them for each page. So it wont fire up until its all loaded.
It loads quicker that way, instead of loading random pieces and trying to fit them into the scheme of things.
