I made a suggestion in the POTD thread a couple of weeks ago and like you I was totally underwhelmed by the response.

Well thank you very much for your vote.  Could be the only vote and the only picture!  There seems to be some pretty heated discussion about those MPOTD so this may have calmed those nerves.

Hmm I don't even waste my time with it my url link is straight into the forums!Smile [:)]

I'd rather be taking photo's than sat worrying about whether my stuffs being displayed on here or anywhere else Smile [:)] Besides if I like it which I mostly do whats the problem?!Stick out tongue [:P]

It's nice they've got someone to 'do something' tho its been quite boring with noone to 'officially' talk to people do eventually get frustrated both with the site and the magazine. I think the main problem for me would be that they don't realise what they've got here as a community.

Oh, we do. We're fully aware how important this site is the community, and how important the community is to this site. Thing is, the DCam magazine team is only a handful of people, and the mag keeps them extremely busy. The only reason I have the time to chat/look at user galleries is that I don't actually work for DCM, I work purely for the website.

However, things do not really appear to have improved. I used to look (wishfully) at the homepage in the hope that maybe one of mine had been good enough to be selected or at the very least, that the shot was from someone I've come to know on here

Looks like your wish came true then Si.   Nice Lighthouse on the front page m8. Big Smile [:D]

I wonder if it could be done by us perhaps save JD a job Wink [;)], look through the recently changed galleries perhaps first 3 pages and see if we as forum users could choose an RPOTD

Simple Rules, post the chosen pic between 9:00am - 9:15am gmt with the date and the name of the gallery in the post.

I will start for today (although it is evening lol)

    Re: Forum choice RPOTD!!

As i have said elsewhere, to my mind as it was treated with such contempt by those that chose the images daily that people have lost interest in it. Once you have lost interest in something then its hard to conjur up the enthusiasm to bother. All the users here saw what happened with front page shots for months, it was obviously became a chore.

Ask yourself would you get the same buzz now if your shot was chosen as oppossed to say 12 months ago, my thinking is probably not, its certainly my feeling.

    Re: Forum choice RPOTD!!

I'm not sure I agree Dave, 12 months ago the POTD was generated electronically and I felt didn't mean very much. Now, somebody who is experienced takes the time to look through the recently updated galleries and decides on which one is best. I have seen very few bad shots on the front page recently and there is a lot more variety.

    Re: Forum choice RPOTD!!

Peter i understand what you are saying, but it was generated electronically on the amount of comments and votes cast by us the "Readers". As with any system some got the hump with the usual faces appearing but it did what it said on the tin pretty much. It was only the fact that a cretin sabotaged it that it all went pear shaped.

At least under that system your shots were voted by your peers which is how nearly all photographic sites work. However due to using that system most suffer from the morons who rate their work far higher than others do and hence try to manipulate things to their gain.

    Re: Forum choice RPOTD!!

Ok, here is my two penneth.

As an infrequent contributor to these forums, please do not think that I do not visit the pages regularly and do not admire the work presented by a great many of you.  I intend to make it my belated new years resolution to add more to the forums, and, more importantly, contribute more comments to your images.

I feel that picture of the deal, chosen by it's members is a sound idea, but only if it were turned into a picture of the week.  Asking members to chose three high qaulity images each and every day will not work in the long run.  Once per week should stand more chance of lasting the test of time.

Of and eqauly important matter is the woefully inadequate updates on the website itself.  yes, there is the "Daily News" ticker, but when was the last time the front page was changed at all???  If memory serves me well, I would say about October/early November!!!

The "Vital Skills" and "Downloads" have remained the same for a long time.   I know that this website is just a marketing tool for the magazine itself, but it's presence needs refreshing on a regular basis.  I am sure that the powers that be could put more vital skills from back issues on the front page and offer the regular viewers a more rewarding visit.
