Lurkalot: JD:
As for reading the mag - I don't work for Digital Camera magazine, I'm currently just running the online side of things (this site and POTY) from another area of the office, and no one's come over and given me a copy yet!
I thought you were the Reviews Editor, and Ant was the editor for the website, and POTY. By the way what did happen to Ant, I haven't seen him lately? ![Wink [;)]](/emoticons/emotion-5.gif)
No, Mark Sparrow is the Reviews Editor for Digital Camera magazine, as it says in the mag. Both Ant and I are working towards something much greater (and Ant's been in a dark room finalising a battle plan these past few weeks, but will be back with us shortly) and eventually Ant will be Editor of a website, and I'll join him as Reviews Editor. Until that happens, we're looking after the Digital Camera magazine website, POTY, writing the newsletter and choosing POTDs

Ive noticed a change in how the POTD is being picked this week, Different logo etc, Is it now a team effort with one member of the team picking one each as I see each quote has different initials after it, I was also lead to believe in a previous quote by JD on 3rd april 2008 on this thread, that POTD was going to be from current gallerys, pictures added to the site within the last 24 hours, chosen by JD and Ant G, or within the last week or so at the least !!! As MPOTD by Kristwiboro, a superb picture might I add, was put on in March 2007 and Kristwiboro last entered their gallery September 2007. Do you think the are going to see their picture on the front page after such a long time away from this site ! As the saying goes, Life is for the living..................Just a thought !!! Steve

Yes, the POTD has changed as of today . We've had feedback from a number of members of this forum to the effect that the previous POTD situation was far from ideal - something everyone at Digital Camera, including myself, agreed with.
I was picking them each day (and Ant, when he was around) - from the last 24 hours' worth of uploads only. Some days, this was easy - loads of great shots uploaded in 24 hours - other days very difficult. The latter often lead to complaints about the quality of choices.
For this reason, we'll be choosing shots from the entire gallery archives at random, as well as from the most recently uploaded photographs, and everyone on the team will be getting involved under the 'DCmag Team' account. We'll leave our name at the end, so you can see who the comment came from.
This should keep things fresh, and make it easier for us, too. Yes, there's a chance that winners may have since left the forum, but if it's uploaded here and it's a great photograph, that shouldn't stop it being featured on the front page.

kidney:I agree it seems a bit of a con-while there have been some excellent potd's,there have been a lot that are real shockers, there are a lot of very worthy gallerys that are deserving of more attention than they currently receive. It all seems to be a bit of a select club and smacks of nepotism-i.e if you don't rub shoulders with the powers that be and don't own a nikon, canon,or pentax slr,you ain't going to get a sniff.Having said that, there are a lot of good things happening on this site,so let's keep it in perspective. ![Indifferent [:|]](/emoticons/emotion-8.gif)
I'm sorry you feel that. I never look at who the photographer was until the last minute - it's the photo that matters to me. I'd also struggle to think of anyone that has 'rubbed shoulders' with me. Rubbed, yes, but usually the wrong way. As for owning a DSLR... notice what camera was used for today's POTD?

button44: So what happened today ? Totally discounting anything I put up, you are saying that everyone contributing to the galleries over this long week-end, put up such rubbish that you had to trawl back and find a photo
You must not have got the memo. It's right there above your post, in case you need it. We'll be picking from the entire gallery from now on, and not starting with the last few days - as for photos having little or no merit, opinion is a beautiful thing. Each day, a different member of the team will be choosing the POTD, so if you don't like one day's choice, best bet is to sit tight for 24 hours. You might just be a winner...

Well done Rach, Your a star, You've picked four great images for todays front page, All from current gallery's, hence the amount of positive feedback they have all recieved today, All these superb shots were taken within the last few months and all in 2008, Most importantly, All are from gallery's that the account holder has used within the last 24 hours. It's not to hard to keep the native's happy is it,
Oh yes and the DCM Avertisers happy as well,
You never know they might just check out this page now and again and seeing lots of positive feedback must be music to their ears (eyes, lol). You ought to have a word in JD's ear, you could teach him a thing or two on how to choose the front pagers for these positive reasons !!...Cheers Steve

Positive reasons for me are an interesting composition, skill behind the lens as opposed to being able to click a few Photoshop filters and doing something different. Positive reasons are not that the photographer is your bestest buddy. As for the locals, this isn't the local bingo hall. More cliquiness is the last thing this place needs.
