Really, and upon what secretive source of information do you base that statement on? I think you'll find that you're in a minority of one in that thinking, oh alright, two then.

The behaviour of the regulars on the forum is quite disgraceful at times, and staff are quick to block any criticism.

It might not exactly conform to your interpretation of what a forum should be but from my own experience of forums this has got to be one of the most easy going, friendly and open communities one could possibly find. We give praise when it's due as we do criticism when that is due. We take the p*ss from time to time, roll with the punches and don't take life too seriously. What more could you want?

Oh no!

 I thought that I had progressed well with my images after getting 1 main POTD and an MPOTD small picture! And it turns out to be just because we are mates JD. How could you abuse our friendship like that! All my dreams of turning Pro have just flown out the window now that I realise my images were not selected on merit alone.

 

Oh the pain of being in a clique, I just cant stand it no more. I may never pick up a camera again!

 

P.S. can I have my fifty back now?

Really? And what about the POTD before JD (and whoever else) were on the scene? I had a landscape shot that was *not* "photoshopped", not "hdr", and not "b+w"... yet it was on POTD and MPOTD a few times (annoyingly). Do I appear to "brown-nose"? Am I a member of staff? I doubt I'm even regarded as "friend". Hmm. Bitter, polysum?

Galleries: Monochrome : The best

I just like to say, four superb images that deserve to be front pagers purely on merit, reguardless of who took them !, They are all fantastic photos in their own right whether photoshoped or not .So it's well done yet again Rachel, you certainly have a good eye for a great shot.

Yup, we're on it. Unfortunately there are parts of the site that we can't edit - this being one of them - so we've put in a request to the company that designed the site to get it changed.

Regarding the use of Photoshop, I guess it comes down to the difference between using it to transform an average photo, and using it to add finishing touches to an already-fantastic image. As conners says, today's front-pagers would still be great photographs even if the raw jpeg had been uploaded. The digital treatment is just the icing on a tasty cake!

Thanks JD, I can understand that.

However, on your second point, this will always be open to massive debate between the purists and digital post processers. As I've said before, I'll sit on the fence until I become a master of photoshop.

Ahhh RPOTD controversy, always makes a good read, especially when the cliques raise their head.

As far as I see the current system works reasonably well, DCM staff work extremely hard to select an image and put their reputations on the line each day to offer supportive comment on an image. They probably do it their spare time as well, well done JD, Marcus, Rachel and Anthony.

Can I get the big picture tomorrow please

I think some people need to get this in perspective. I first started looking in at this site when I got a new DSLR a few months back and liked the idea of seeing how others do shots. I enter the weekend comp to stretch my imagination (sometimes when i am not lazy) and try to teach myself something new each week. I look at the home page to see what is posted as pictures of the day and like others feel that in recent months the selections have largely been good ones that I`d be proud of if I had taken them myself. It would be nice if one of my images got up there one day but I post very little really in my galleries and at the end of the day it`s nothing to get too het up about. There are so many images and galleries around I really appreciate it when some have taken the trouble to drop in to mine and I try to have a look at others when  I have time. How someone can get so upset by what is effectively a hobbyists site and talk of cliques and plots shows a level of  paranoia that is quite bizarre to me.

PS I am not related to any DCMag staff nor count any as mates or chums - but like anyone else they are welcome to drop in to my gallery and offer a critique any time with no requirement to post any image as POTD.

I should also say that whilst I have managed to win a couple of weekend comps in my time here I do not really think I am the "best photographer in the world" (It is just a joke right?) and I get more from the critiques put up by the likes of shelfy, fizzio, hevans etc than the voting - we learn together right! If you cannot get something out of the site for yourself without being spread on the front page just don`t visit - no big deal!

Yes and it's a lovely shot. If you read the interesting replys to the previous shot you'd see she's 30 years of age and she’s been married for 6 years and has a child. They just felt they were safer checking.

So the interim update doesn't really mitigate the risk.
