    ... anything by John Woo

Comedy: Ealing comedies, Uncle Buck, Planes, trains and automobiles

Hard Boiled is possibly one of the best films that John Woo has done.  I think that I read somwhere that it used to hold the record for the largest bodycount in any film made for a while Smile [:)]

John Candy was a genius, I love Planes, Trains and Autombiles:

    "Those aren't pillows!!!!!!"

Agree about John Candy, even Cool Running was a great feel good movie. Big Smile [:D]

70's Horror: THE EXORCIST - I walked out after 30 minutes. Scared me for years (I was pregnant at the time and truly believed I was possessed for 2 1/2 years and that my baby son was the devil.

It's okay I'm sane now. It's just those bloody people who keep wandering around my house at night!

80's Horror: THE THING was well creepy when it first came out.

    And ALIEN

Sci-Fi: got to be THE ABYSS init

Period: CLARISSA - first Sean Bean movie I saw

    Humour: Mrs DOUBTFIRE

    Epic: GONE WITH THE WIND

Musical: SOUND OF MUSIC / SOUTH PACIFIC BUT top marks to to:

Musical: Moulin Rouge, very funny, very sad. I see something new every time I watch it

    Play: Wish You Were Here

    Best Film Score: THE GLADIATORS

Cartoon: Fern Gully / Fifth Element

Best Live Action: CIRQUE DE SOLEIL closely followed by WIMBLEDOM

    Fantasy: The Butterfly Effect

So far Van Helsing ... I know, I know ... I can feel the eyerolls from here ... but I'm a girl and there's plenty of eye candy! Plus David Wenham is so funny!  Just one of those films I can watch over and over!

I'm not one for intellectual movies, I just like to sit and relax and be entertained - yes I'm a simple soul¬

    Re: Your favourite MOVIE

Came to this thread a little late, but just to balance my rant on the worst film thread...

Overall winner – The Big Lebowski – I must have sat through this 20 times and I still never fail to cry with laughter. If you were to ask me why, I probably couldn’t tell you. Student days nostalgia probably.

Sci-Fi (as a child) – Return of the Jedi

Sci-Fi (as a growed up) – Bladerunner, or maybe 2001 – I know that’s a bit poncy, but I love it. Or The Cube – very clever film. I agree that an adventure in space isn’t necessarily a sci-fi.

Horror – Evil Dead, or maybe the original Ring movie, or maybe the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. No – it’s Evil Dead. Or the original Omen? No - Evil Dead.

Comedy that isn’t Python – The Big Lebowski

Python – Prefer Holy Grail to LoB.

Gangster – Godfather Part I (I thought that was compulsory!?)

    Thriller – The Usual Suspects

    Vietnam – Apocalypse Now

WWII – Bridge on the river Kwai (but there are so, so many others)

    Iraq – Jarhead

Foreign Language – City of God, Jean de Florette/Manon des source – and The Vanishing

Western – tough call – not massively into westerns – for a modern western 3:10 to Yuma was excellent

Action/adventure – Bond. James Bond. Yes, all of them.

Period – Dangerous Liaisons (with John Malkovich)

Musical – I’d rather stick read hot knitting needles in my ears and eyes.

Drama – Brokeback Mountain – heartbreakingly beautiful – wish I’d photographed that!

And finally anything by the incomparable, incomprehensible David Lynch

    Re: Your favourite MOVIE

    coo where to start...

historical : Gladiator, (some great action and some historical bits)
fighting : 300, (crap film but some awesome fighting scenes!!)
b & w : anything by jacques tati, but probably Monsieur Hulots Holiday
cartoon : Belleville Rendevous, (because i like cycling)
comedy : Life of Brian (amazing film and made on tight budget unlike the modern Mr Beans)
War : We Were Soldiers (I think it's this one where they are in 'Nam and the yanks get ambushed)

    others:
Action : Shooter, (great explosions and awesome sniper shooting)
Gangster : Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (currently my best, however got some others in the post!!)

my favourite story line plot: The Usual Suspects... (a very clever plot with a final twist at the end)
Overall favourite: O brother where art thou?
great soundtrack (although my cd has jammed my computers CD-RW drive) and very funny

    Re: Your favourite MOVIE

Dirty Dancing & Much Ado About Nothing are my favourite girly films.

Labyrinth is fav film from the 80's.

Quite liking Shane Meadows films at the moment - This Is England is very thought provoking plus I can watch it and I say "know where that is" a lot of his work is filmed in Nottingham.

Police Acadamy for comedy make laugh even now and I've seen them countless times.
