    Re: Transportation- planes,boats and trains

David's excellent picture does look like a Dakota, life not being bet though.

shelfy - this thing is evidently a Volvo mobile 'phone. It says 'phone' on the side, obvious really. That big thing on the front must be the optional extra loudspeaker for the hard of hearing.

It must have a massive battery life to need wheels that big to cart it around too . . but above all, it will be a safe 'phone' - lots of thick steel shielding to save the user from the deadly mutating radiation.

I don't have a mobile phone myself, but if I did have to choose one I think that the new Apple thing might just beat this one for convenience and features. And lack of yellow rustiness.

Yes it's a Dakota. I had a flight in it at Blackpool last Thursday before EU laws make it impossible for them to do passenger flights.

hmmm, volvos...as Dudley Moore once remarked whilst working on advertising slogans for the company..

    "they're boxy, but good."

and I'd say it'll outlive your sexy delicate little flavour-of the-month Applephone....or at least beat it up good if there was a big mobile phone punch-up..

    hmmm...now there's an idea. "Phone-Wars

David, I am of an age to remember when they were still flying these things on the smaller scheduled airlines. Flown on them twice.

Most frightening thing I've ever done (but I was only 10). I asked my father, a much decorated WW2 pilot, if it was OK that the wings were moving up and down so much. He said (well shouted actually, given the noise from the creaking airframe which was amazingly still audible above the uneven howl of the engines) 'You just watch them son, and let me know if they stop; that's when we need to get off'.

Cramped, deafening, dangerous, unpressurised - like the tube only cheaper.

Should have banned them years ago lol.

Make a nice nostalgic looking picture though.

    Great shot.

Not yet, but I will. Just thought I'd do the flight first while I can.

That's a cracking pair David, I expect to see at least one of them up on the front page before too long.

That Mono treatment really works well, I kept looking around expecting to see a Maltese Falcon hidden away somewhere.

    Cheers, Peter.

    Thanks Gil. Nice.

I've always been a bit more of a rag and stick man myself, the Western Isles and the Adriatic being favourites of mine.

Not keen on oceans, no restaurants or bars.

Who wants to guess which one of David's will be on the front page come luchtime? my guess is the mono.

I remembered I had seen this old Bentley (at least I think it's a Bentley) a few weeks ago. Sadly I could only grab a shot of it through my car windscreen. Ah, wind in the hair. . . or the beany hat.
