Re: The grumpy old gits thread......

What makes me grumpy at the moment......the way good weather and sunshine means an increase in the litter...bottles and cans etc. in the park and by the river. Not that there are'nt litter bins- a few that have'nt been set alight and melted - it's just easier to sit under the trees or play football and just leave your rubbish behind. I just can't get into the mindset of someone that can do that. They do often have the energy to smash a few bottles though!

Re: The grumpy old gits thread......

I've heard a horrendous rumour that Timmy Mallett is planning a comeback on t.v-please tell me this isn't true,as I don't think my fragile sanity can stand any more non- talents  being added to the already enormous list of dross that masquerades as television nowadays.Let's face it,if you're straight, talented, white, you won't get a look in at the B.B.P.C  or any other television company ,you have to have something wrong with you to get a job with these people nowadays,in short, the entertainment business, like the establishment,is a corrupt, self serving proselytising mound of poo.Angry [:@]

Re: The grumpy old gits thread......

Well I have spent this afternoon reading the whole thread (instead of working - no contest really LOL!).  I thorough enjoyed it, nodding a lot in agreement and lots of giggling too - thank you.  Here are my comments on some of the posts - forgive me if you have forgotten what was said as it was so long ago!

Mobile phones - don't like text talk or music on speaker - we have someone in the office who takes her calls on speaker and she has a loud voice too, really irritating as usually her calls are not work related and inane drivel!

Reality shows Ick! [+o(] ... whenever I've flicked through Big Brother they are asleep or their conversation is muted ... what's the point of that?  Other programs seem to consist of young men who are thick as sh*t spending their time trying to get into some brainless bimbos nickers and screaming females who if they were issued a brain cell at birth have lost it along the way - no wonder the country is going to rack and ruin!

Sorry to any US friends here but sorry US comedy shows aren't funny.

Footballers - everyone moaned about Georgie Best but at least he had talent and he came from the UK, seems to me that UK clubs consist totally of foreigners these days including their managers.  Another profession gone to the dogs with over compensated talentless individuals.

Schools - yes I was one of those where at primary school if you put a foot wrong the teacher threw the blackboard rubber at you (and in my case very accurately and hit you on the head) - these were an oval wooden blocks with a bit of felt like material on one side and they bl**dy hurt!  Or slamming the desk lid on your fingers if you were looking in your desk when you shouldn't have been.

I really feel sorry for teachers today who have to put up with undisciplined louts whose parents can't be bothered to control them cos they're too busy getting pissed down the pub (I'm not against alcohol as I can drink with the best of em!).

Loved the Taser idea by the way!

Drivers - the 'one ahead brigade' ... bangs head on desk!  Those who dive in front of you just to get ahead of you because they can despite the two mile gap behind you.  BMW drivers are the worst  ... far worse than Volvo drivers used be!  I'm not a slow driver (after all I drive ambulances as a hobby) .. but this obsession to dive into the smallest of spaces irrespective of the chaos it causes is beyond me!  Maybe some can explain the logic,

Call Trees - press this number for this option etc etc .... YAWN! ... I don't press anything and it's amazing how many times you get put through to an 'advisor' without having to wait too long - a few just send you round and round - if they do that I hang up.  Equally websites that have a "contact us" link and then the only way you can contact them is a friggin' email!  No idea where they are based or anything Angry [:@]

"spellchecker plug in for firefox" ... nearly fell of my chair laughing at that one!

ADD and ADHD - one of those conditions that does exist but everyone jumps on the bandwagon saying they have it when they really don't.  A bit like the trend a few years ago when people didn't have headaches they had migraines, my response was always "if you were suffering from a migraine you would't be standing up" and they looked at me as if I come from another planet.  Headache = your head hurts.  Migraine = visual disturbance, sickness, light phobia - you just want to lie down somewhere dark and die!  Which are you suffering from?  It was usually a headache.

Corporal punishment/National Service - anything in my book that will teach Respect!  In my humble opinion all the ills of our current society stem from lack of Respect.  Nobody gives a damn about themselves, others, property, in fact anything as long as they get what they want.  Sod everyone else.  If military service is deemed too severe why not adopt the system the Germans had a few years ago (don't know if it still exists) - if you don't want to go into the military the you work voluntarily for the community - assisting the elderly and disabled etc etc.

In the same vein prisoners should not be molycodled (sorry don't know how to spell that).  Things are too soft, they should be made to work and locked away in their cells afterwards, none of this sitting around watching tv as if they were at home ... it supposed to be a punishment not a transfer of living accommodation!  Oh and yes, life should mean life, no a few years.

Children in Supermarkets - I do have some sympathy with parents whose child is having a tantrum but apathetic ones are irritating.  The parents that really make my blood boil are those who walk in the supermarket and let their kids just run wild - running up and down the aisles thinking it's a great game and when said child crashes into your trolley and hurts themselves, they look at you as if it's your fault.  One woman looked at me and said 'aren't you going to say sorry' ... I calmly turned and said 'if you had control of your child it wouldn't have happened, why should I apologise' to which the whole aisle applauded - I think she left the store shopping unfinished.

Trolleys in the middle of the car park irritate me too but even worse - you are reversing out of a parking space - you are most of the way out and someone  walks behind you and then gets cross when you nearly mow them down - scuse me, it's common sense not to walk behind ANYTHING that's reversing or am I deluded?

Politicians - money grabbing parasites out for their own ends ... I'll stop there otherwise this post will be longer than the original thread Big Smile [:D]

Political correctness - now I'm a pretty live and let live type of gal but even I am getting totally fed up of people coming to this country, being housed, given benefits and never having to get off their *** and work let alone speak the language and then complaining because we moan about it!  As someone else pointed out, if you don't like the way we live and our rules, leave!

Anonymity when voting - no worries there, the local councillors don't know where I live even though the flats have been there 11 years and are right next to the polling station.

As for any sort of budget/tax change, because I am a single person working full-time with no dependents and am just above what they class as low wages I always end up poorer.  What they give with one hand they take away more with another!

My biggest bugbear ... Health and Safety... for *** sake get a life and live it! Jeez Louise, we won't be able to breathe soon!

Forseti - hurricane 1987 - I remember it well, spent the weekend driving round Sussex distributed storm lanterns and heaters to those without electricity and helping to put tarpaulins on houses with no roofs.

Gas and electricy - how does anyone work out their usage anyhow - they have so many different charges on one bill, I've never got my head around it - as long as the monthly amount doesn't go up I'm reasonably happy.

Sales - all a big con period!

Don't even get me started on Brussels - one visit and all I can say is my experience of them was the rudest most ignorant people I have ever had the displeasure to meet and I will NEVER go back.

Pubs - had a tatty but reasonable pub which was OK to go and sit in and read the paper on a Sunday - some company turned it into a sports bar which caused no end of trouble and destruction in the local area, fortunately someone has now turned it into a gastro-pub, which means I can go and get Sunday lunch and read the paper again!

Over the last few years the local Magistrates granted licences to all these modern bars - Yates, Edwards, Wetherspoons, the local nightclub and associated bars and they are all located in one street on our busy one way system with little concern about the chaos it would cause.  On Friday and Saturday nights all the local police end up in this street, trying to stop people who are totally out of their heads from killing themselves trying to cross the road whilst traffic is whizzing round the one way system at probably more than 30 miles and hour - someone please tell me what planet the Magistrates were on when they made these decisions!

OK YOU CAN WAKE UP NOW - I've stopped LOL!  Do I qualify as a grumy old git Big Smile [:D]

Congratulations! You've provided us with our first handbook of grumpiness! Big Smile [:D]

Could DCMag run off some copies to be included with the next version – laminated of course. [he says trying to use the en dash correctly, as recommended by JD's friend]
