Yes my students do know! I am very much a novice and admit, I use this mag for most of our ideas, all my students know where the ideas come from however, its the manipulation side using PSP8 which I was put in place for, just wish we had Photoshop as you are comming up with some very good ideas as well as the HDR. You are all inspiring. It is very difficult to know what the examiner would be looking for and the only way is to stand on the shoulders of giants. We thank you all.

    NEW MEMBER - STEVIE PICS

    Hello everyone,

Enjoying my first couple of weeks on the DC website.  Here's some jottings about me and what's got me going nuts about photography:

    FIRST PANGS:

Got bit by the photographic bug some four years when I bought my first camera for a World Cruise which I was working on for P&O Cruises.

Back on dryland I started to take an interest in London's statuary and monuments and ended up photographing some 600 (no, not a typo!) of the city's bronze and sculpted notables.  Frankly, on technical grounds, I didn't have a clue about what I was doing and it certainly showed!!

    GETTING SERIOUS:

A year later, and now in possession of a reasonable prosumer SLR and a set of second-hand Interfit tunsgsten lights with reflector brollies off Ebay, I decided to try my hand at studio photography.

Ignorance can be a great learning aid.  That is to say, if you new at the beginning just how much you didn't know ... well, you'd never start at all!  What I did know was that I had a decent eye for composition and, having grown up in the world of theatre and films (my pa is an actor), a grasp on the basics of lighting.

What was to follow then was the steepest and most compelling of learning curves, not to mention a very steep newsagents bill, as I amassed my tutorial library of DC, Digital Photo, Practical Photograpy, AP and so on and so forth - anyway, it amounts to a 100 back issues.

AND WHERE EXACTLY HAS IT ALL GOT YOU?  EH, MR STEVIE PICS??!!!

On good days (and after nearly 70 studio sessions) I call myself semi-pro, but realistically I know I am only in the foothiils of what I hope one day be able to call a career.  For the moment though I just wish I could find a Sherpa Tsensing to be my guide on the next stage of my climb and then I can concentrate on making base camp!  Wish me luck!!

PS.  MY WEBSITE - A WEE CAUTION RATING

My studio work is principally gay orientated and while I would be delighted for anyone to check it out, I'll just advise that it may not be everyone's cup tea.  There's nothing there to frighten the horses as such but let's just say that I haven't sent my grandmother the link.

Hi everyone. I'm Alan and I've just joined. I'm from Edinburgh and take a wide range of subjects but concentrate on portraits. I use a Canon 350D and prefer to use natural light rather than flash.

    Hi all,

I'm Anthony (Tony if you like) Haughey {pronounced Hahey). Although I was involved in graphic art in my working days, I'm relatively new to digital photography and my photoshop skills are more illustrative than photographic. I like all aspects of photograhy especially the post production. Love portraiture (though fairlly naive in the lighting effects). I hope that I can look to you guys for advice and constructive criticism.

Re: Hello. I'm new here. New member introductions

Hello all, some of you may remember me from a while back. I'm not exactly new but as I've been away for 6 months or so I thought it might be good to re-introduce myself. Lots of things have been going on in my life since I was last an active 'poster' on the site but the most positive and relevant ones are that I embarked on a distance photography course and had a website set up for my landscape shots. I upgraded some of my kit and now have a D300 plus some really nice lenses thanks to my hubby and I am really looking forward to catching up with you all. It was great to see the names of Shelfy, Oldboy, Filter99. There are loads of others out there as well - I'm off to look at some of the galleries and see what you have all been up to in the last six months. I think my own gallery might need a spruce up as well!!!

    Hello all,

I'm Paul, and confess to still being a novice in the land of photography. I am the guy who suffers the 'research paralysis', such as reading hatfuls of articles on Spring photography to find it is Winter by the time I finish! Targets for this year: take more pictures (!), and have the confidence to put some online!

    Re: Robin New Here

You need to create a gallery first and upload pictures to that, or have them stored on the web first before you can copy and paste. Big Smile [:D]

Let's see, what can I say about myself? I'll leave that for later I think, feeling a bit shy tonight. I'll post some pictures next and let them do the talking. Smile [:)]
