What gets my goat is the Govenment say that the avarage family can live off x amount of money, and that taxes have to go up to pay for the running of the country. If this was entirely true then I would not mind, but when you hear of MP's having second homes and staff to look after them doesn't it wind you up?

I have said many a time to the husband I wish I was prime minister. I'd make all MP's take a pay cut ( do they really need 3 figure salaries) and that would be just for starters.

hmmm when is the next general election?????

I echo the feelings behind your sentiments Angela although not the sentiments themselves if that makes sense at all? The reality is that there is always a pecking order in life so where would you start? Would for example, you lower your income to below the level that the MP's themselves were earning? I doubt it - you'd probably lower yours as well as the MP's but to a level where yours was slightly above theirs. And why not? Those at the top always get more than those below otherwise what would be the incentive to improve oneself? There of course wouldn't be any. Another thought - if you lowered MP's salaries to - oh I don't know, let's say £25,000 ignoring the fact that you question whether they deserve 3 figure salaries meaning the maximum they could earn would be £999. Ok, back to the £25,000 then - what salary would say Police Officers earn? If this was left to 'wage bargaining' and their Union negotiated a figure of £30,000 then I think you and your MP's would feel a little aggrieved don't you?

This isn't a dig at you personally Angela please believe me - but an attempt to point out what is wrong in society in general. It's very easy to get very emotional about various issues without really thinking the consequences through. When you get to my age and experienced numerous Government changes then you'll come to realise that they are basically all the same. Running a country isn't and never will be an easy job and with the best will in the world you'll never satisfy everyone. In some respects I have a healthy respect for the French because as a nation they don't spend a lot of time complaining about matters but get out there on the streets and make their feelings known. Ok - sometimes it does get a bit out of hand but the point I am trying to make is that anybody, and I mean anybody, who feels this Government (or any Government) is doing a terrible job and that they could do better then please get on with it and show us. There's an old saying, 'pay peanuts and you'll get monkeys' and if you reduce MP's salaries (fictionally of course) then you might just end up regretting the motley crew you end up getting.

Point taken.Sorry finger slipped it should have read " a 6 figure salary". I am not suggesting that they don't have an important job and shouldn't be rewarded for it. All I am saying is that they are hypocrit's in saying that we should live of x amount and "make do" for want of a better term. When they themselves are incapable of keeping track of their own expenses. Just recently it was reported that a politician had claimed for every day living costs eg T.V licence, housekeeper ( for goodness sake learn how to put your own hover over your own carpets). I don't see why both my husband and I should have to pay for these ( along with every other tax payer) when they earn so much for not doing alot ( in my eyes).

When I was growing up my mother always said " The conservatives are ruining this country. We were all much better off under Labour". I can only comment that I was born the same year that Mrs Thatcher was elected. From what I can see yes as far as Wales is concerned Labour has served us well. But as a Government it is a different matter. The government currently take 60% tax on our fuel, diesel in my local area is now 128.9 ltr that means that for every ltr I put in my car I am paying the goverment 77.34p. As a country the uk pay one of the highest tax's for the MP's to waste our money right left and centre. I am told I have to pay National Insurance for my pension when I retire. By the time I retire there will be no state pension. My question is what on earth are they wasting our money on?

Just out of interest Angela what would you say would be a fair wage for the Prime Minister and MP's? To put this into some form of perspective, the PM is responsible for the 'management' of the country including amongst many other things the nations security etc. On the other hand, train drivers earn between 25K and 30K immediately after qualifying which does not include overtime payments and other perks, and they are responsible for a few hundred people on a train. I'd be interested to hear what you think would be fair. 

Whoever you vote for,the government always gets in power.Basically,whichever party gets in,they are all faced with the same set of realities,and apart from a few minor differences of presentation,party political hype,etc,they are all feeding from the same trough as everbody else.The real issues today are moral,and how we as a species react or don't react to them.Remember,apathy and extremism are the real killers,and personal greed comes a close third.You have to remember,on issues that really matter such as Europe,capital punishment etc,you have been denied a referendum by succesive governments,this tells you that it is the establishment behind the public figures that runs the country.Democracy is only accorded to the people when it suits them,or they want your votes to further their ambitions.

Without know exact figure of either salaries it would be unfair to say. My point is that to quote Mr Blaire when he was in power " I could not live on the minimum wage". If the PM could not live off the minimum wage then why should we have to accept this.

Kidney to answer your point all the government and establishment are concerned with is their own greed. Myself as a mother and a member of the voting general public would like to be able to bring my children up in a safe enviroment, and not have to worry that if they put up the cost of living will I be able to feedand clothe my family. Also can I realy afford to continue working myself when I need my car for work, and not have to balance up food,clothing and heating over being able to put fuel in my car to go out to work. This is echoed through many homes. This country has gone to the dogs and it makes me sick to think what my children will be faced with.

What I don't like about MP's, is they way the instruct us on the need for pay control whilst, milking the system for every penny they can get. Also, they take about the need to represent their voters, but when it comes to the big questions like hanging, they vote according to their conscious.

They must think that we are all stupid or something. the only thing the say they don't tax us on is food and kids clothing. The government is one big joke. I think wales would be much better off as a seperate country to England.
