I set out to capture the setting sun over a small lake in a local park. Didn't work out at all, either the camera isn't up to it, or I haven't mastered the right settings yet. On the way to the lake however, I was struck by the beautiful light slanting through the trees and took a few pictures of that as well. When I saw the pictures on the screen at home (I'm partially sighted and only get a 'rough' impression on the camera's lcd screen.) I realised the photo of the slanting light was way better than any of the sunsets. 

Looking at the entries in this category, I realised my simple sunset would not have stood a chance anyway, as it would have to compete with the most breathtaking sunsets and scenery. In a way, my sunlit lane stands out.

I did not use any special techniques, just autobracket and I may have changed the White Balance setting to 'sun,' but I'm not even sure of that.

Any comments/advice welcome.

I decided to upload a sunset shot of mine which is one of my favourites.  I have had this made into a canvas and it is now proudly displayed on the wall of my parents house.  I actually took an almost identical photo in the same spot several years earlier using 35mm film.  As I say, it's one that I keep coming back to over and over so I thought it worthy of submission.  No filters were used, I metered from a spot just above the sun and set the white balance in camera a shade warmer to enhance the colours.

Hi Reinardina, great image and rightly popular (it has 6 voyes now).  It's wonderfully creative and, like your vase picture, shows good imagination.  It's nice to see you experimenting and developing a style.

Thanks! I'm trying to find  new angles to create different photographs, as in most fields the 'normal' angles are already done with more insight and technical mastery than I'll ever manage.

Ive litterally JUST turned 18 and ive only done my 2 years of photography in college and dont really have feedback from anyone about my images, havnt even got my grades yet lol Any thoughts on these 2 would be appreciated.
