And by the way....never, ever, ever, EVER use your on camera flash, especially if you have a flash gun.

What never ever? Damn - I'm going to have to modify my technique. (Absolutes are ALWAYS wrong.)

I think he was referring to that crappy little one that pops up.

Is that a filter velcroed to the top of your flashgun or parcel tape holding it together?

Ah, I misread the "especially if you have a flashgun" bit.

3 grand didn't get me a pop up so I can't show you a picture of me using that. If I had one I'd use it. Sometimes. On camera flash can do stuff that off camera can't. Especially moving with you.

Parcel tape??? What kind of a person do you think I am? I only use ninja black gaffa tape or electrical tape for holding kit together.

That's a band of velcro which I have on all my small flashguns and a CTO gel held out of the way.
Kidography. It's like photography. But more fun.

    Hi,

I have a Canon EOS 300D and a 580EX flash gun.  I am learning how to use the camera in manual mode, but am struggling to master the flashgun in manual mode.

What I want to be able to do is get the right exposure when using the flash facing the person I am photographing, like the press.

Do i still line up the line in the camera viewfinder?  I really am struggling!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

    Jaime

If you want to get to grips with flash I would sugest you download this. DG28.com. He gives a very good write up and puts his money where his mouth is with very good shots for each situation. I printed them all out, aprox 50 shots.
