Is it worth entering shots that have been taken in auto mode? Will they be taken seriously?

I agree with Matt. If you have a great shot, you have one, and you took it, so show it off. Enter the comp and you will certainly make everyone wish they'd taken it if you win.

Agree with the others. A lot of PRO's use auto for nature shots, where speed counts or you lose the shot.

The fact that you even have to ask this question is a reflection of the terrible snobbery that exists in photography. Photography is this dimension is basically pure art, and it matters not one iota if you use a Hasselblad or a Casio. A £10,000 lens is not going to take your pictures for you. Use your eye and your imagination to capture your images, and post the shots that you are proud of.
