    Re: Day out in Notts

Yeah, Bank holiday could be tough for me, BBQ on the 4th too...we're not going to the same one are weBig Smile [:D] An an old friend turning up for a booze up on the 3rd....but the days free. Traffic on a BH could be a nightmare.

What ever I'll try and catch the next one.

When I suggested the w/e of 3-4th, it completely escaped me that it was a bank hol weekend Embarrassed [:$].

What about the weekend after (10-11th) then? Any other ideas?

Thanks for the information re parking too - useful to know.

    Re: Day out in Notts

Sunday May 11th would be good for me - I live in Nottingham so might be able to guide round a bit - I've never yet photographed the city centre (feel a bit of a fool on my own)! But there are some fabulous looking buildings in Notts (as well as some hideous 1's!)

As for a meeting place the council building is the best place to meet - right in the heart of the centre and also on a lovely square with a fountains that lead to good photo ops! Could meet outside by the lion statue on the left as you look at the council building! (always been the meeting place for everything!) Easy transport links to it and a short walk up from the train station (or 2 stops on the tram).

Plus lots of bars to retire too - in fact was in 1 called the Malt Cross the other week and as I sat there thought that I should have bought my camera as the building inside is fantastic (bit dark though)!

    Count me in.

Here is a MAP of roughly where Jules' suggested meeting point is.

And it looks like THIS (hope Mr Bramley doesn't mind).

    Re: Day out in Notts

So is it a goer then? What time are people able to meet - most of the shops have started opening about 10.30am so its still fairly quiet about 10ish, and what would people like to take photos of - the Lace market area has some grand old 18th century buildings and cobbled streets, and there is the castle and Old Trip to Jerusalem pub area which are very pretty.

    Re: Day out in Notts

Looks like a plan is emerging. The castle has an admission charge but that includes admission to the Brewhouse Yard museum down the road which as some interesting recreations of days gone by. The views fropm the Castle are pretty fantastic too. The Taz offices are quite interesting for modern architecture buffs too.

I think we can make a lot of it up as we go along and we don't all have to do the same thing necessarily. And public transport is really good so its quite feasible to pop out a bit further afield if we want.

Not keen on meeting earlier than 10am, it is Sunday after all and it looks like people will be travelling.

    Re: Day out in Notts

Could probably organise some cave/pub cellar tours if anyone's interested. The Bell says they'll do group bookings and I'm happy to pop in and ask.
