    Using the Organiser in Elements

I use Elements 5 extensively to edit my images but am very frustrated when I go to the Organiser and find thousands of little hour glasses instead of pictures.  Can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong?  I would be very grateful.

    Many thanks

come across this a few times myself.  All you need to do is update the thumbnail's/pictures.

I'm not on my main pc and dont have PSE on the laptop so cant give you the directions to the command i'm afraid - think you right click on the hourglass picture and one option is update.

    hope this helps.

Simply put the hour glass means you have moved, deleted or renamed files outside of Elements and it no longer knows where they are (it has lost the link to them) ,you can try reconect in the organizer.

If you wish to use Organizer correctly everthing to do with images, moving deleting etc must be done in it and not in windows explorer or another program.

Re: Using the Organiser in Elements

Thanks for the replies.  Have followed the advice given but sadly to no avail.  I have tried restoring but when asked to browse for wher the oroginal file might be the only choice of file type I get is*tly which I've never come across before and all my files are saved as jped or psd.  Most of my files were originally RAW files before I converted them, would this matter, does the organiser show RAW files?

Would reinstalling PSE work do you think?

    Thanks for the help,

    Dave

Re: Using the Organiser in Elements

No need to reinstall, you can do one of two things.

1- Select all the images or the ones with hour glasses in the organsier and select delete but DO NOT tick the box that say remove from hard drive, this way just the proxies are removed and not the original files this can take a little while so do not panic.  Then just re-import the images again.

2- Open the organizer  and select catalogs > New Catalog from the drop down list and re-import you images to the new catalog.

Yes it can show raw files even for the latest cameras if you have updated camera raw to ver 4.4.1.
