Hi, I've had the SB800 to use on my D200 since Feb this year and somehow thought I required a  transmitter to work the flash remotely, I found this video that takes you through the D300 settings ( just the same as D200) and flash settings, it worked great and opens up a whole new set of lighting oppertunities. If you have any other tips for me please let me know.

Thank's Eileen, I'm half way through looking at the strobist site its great, thanks so much for the links. I have big hopes for the way off camera flash will improve my images, I can hardly believe the difference it makes, changing a not bad shot into really interesting one.

While experimenting with  the flash here are 2 images that just show how remarcable the off camera flash makes, but I guess you know that already since you directed me to the 2 sites.

Yes well i use my SB-800 off camera with my D80 using comander mode with my built in flash which is very useful rather than buying a transmitter of remote cord.

Nikon say that if the remote Speedlight is within 30 degrees of the central axis of the camera lens the range is 10 metres, and if between 30 and 60 degrees then the maximum range is 5 metres. But many people say this a very conservative estimate and they have managed much further distances. I think the point is that Nikon won't guarantee it will work at longer distances.
